Ive always used statcounter.com in the past, but the log size for keeping information is too small for the way my sports website is operating and ive deciding to move to Google Analytics as ive heard good feedback.

 

I installed the code to place on my index file of my website this morning and logged onto Analytics to check the status. At first it was showing a warning icon which I presume was the norm, shortly followed by a tick to confirm that the code was placed in the correct place.

 

Since 12pm today though the Analytics programme hasn't managed to monitor any in-coming hits from the website, and although they is a possiblity that nobody has been on my website, this is unlikely as a couple of new members have registered on my forums, which is only accessible via the main website itself.

 

So the question is.....am I doing something wrong, or should I be waiting at least 24 hours before the Analytics programme starts to recieve incoming data?

Analytics is not live, you won't see any data until the Google day rolls over.

Well what you said seems to be right. However I checked mid-morning today and had 22 unique hits, and now about 12 hours later nothing has changed, although the forums have been busy tonight so its near to impossible that the hit counter should stay the same,

I think they say a day to be sure of complete data, but (and this is from a good year or so ago, so may be out of date by now) I understood it to refresh approximately every four hours.

 

However, since your default view only runs to 'yesterday', you would need to amend the date period at the top to include 'today' and be aware that the data could still be 4 hours out of date. (Though, as I said, it could have changed by now).

Have you installed it on every page of the site? You will only get data for pages that the code is installed on.
