June 2, 200917 yr "Allegedly" the bookies near me are placing bets on how long they think the government will last. So, why not us lots of have ago? Reasons: 1 ) Speaker is resigning 2 ) Home Secretary is resigning 3 ) A Reshuffle next week 3 ) Brown, in a TV interview said, "Alistair Darling WAS a good chancellor" indicating a potential loss there 4 ) SNP and Plaid Cymru are tabling a motion demanding dissolution of parliament 5 ) 64,000+ Signatures on the Downing Street Website demanding his resignation 6 ) Tories & Lib Dem leaders demanding an election 7 ) Labour Backbench MP's rebelling - Lost of support from even his own party 8 ) MP Expenses Scandal From the outset, the situation is far worse than Thatchers Downfall Has he really got a chance? And is he so blind to think that "people still want me" ? I just want him to go, now.
June 2, 200917 yr I don't think he'll resign, he'll be in power until the 2010 elections, he's more resilient than people think.
June 2, 200917 yr from here everything is starting to get better, by the next election we might be thanking them for getting us out of the mess and we (tax payers) may have made a mint selling the bank shares we got cheap. but as this ends another issue begins. oil and copper are getting more expensive, we aren't going to be able to afford anything anymore
June 2, 200917 yr Author I understand what you mean, trouble is, he is very stuborn, so I don't know. I'm very critical of his "constitutional" policies. He seems totally obessed with the idea of a Constitution, but totally oblivious to the fact we don't have one. I'm Especially sceptical of his proposal to transfer his royal perogatives to parliament. (I.e. Ability to Delcare War, Call Parliament Back in a National Emergency ect. ect.) Because, really, if the prime minister looses the majority of his royal perogatives, he's got no power at all, really, the PM has very little power now, but why drain the position of the powers it does have? "Sorting out" the system before an election is not a priority, let the public decide and drain the state of the leaching B*stards who are sucking our hard earned cash. Fixing the system with the same MP's in office is like mopping up water whilst leaving the tap that caused it still on! But to be honest, if a motion of no confidence is passed, then I imagine he'll have to go. There's no suppose-so about it.
June 2, 200917 yr omg, cummon... your a business owner so i know you do your best to pay as little tax as possible, i know i do (legally) and thats all they done. I also know that anyone who travels for work always gets the most expensive meal and wine at the hotel and stays in the most expensive room. I know this from a lot personal experience. also they ar eonly on £40k a year basic, if we want to attract the best people we need to pay them enought, and it was widely accepted that it was £40k + £24k expenses, same as £40k + a company car or £20k + gym membership. yeah
June 3, 200917 yr Author Well yeah, I know we all do something on a similar scale, but to be honest, They've abused power - what they've done in fraud. Yeah, I totally agree, we all add bits and bobs to expenses, but would you continue claiming expenses for say - your mortgage, if you'd already paid it off? Well unlikely - because you'd be caught and have action taken against you. They're abusing their position to avoid being caught and still receiving the benefits from it. It's not the expenses scandal that's my main "chip" to be honest, it's the incompetence of the cabinet and the guy leading it. The Prime Minister does not have the experience to execute the job he is successfully. You only need to look at the news today that another secretary of state has resigned, The Communities & Local Government Secretary has gone. I watched Prime Ministers questions at the House on BBC Parliament today, and he would not answer the question "Will the Chancellor still be in his position next week?" He was asked several times and refused to answer. Despite claiming he is "Brilliant". The Torries, Lib Dems and Even Back Bench Labours all want an election, and Cameron actually shouted at him across the table and told him to get down to the palace. It’s not so much the expenses – But I’ve lost faith in Labour. A Reshuffle will solve nothing, The EU Elections will be the real tell-tale.
June 3, 200917 yr fair enough but how about if he had a separate bank a/c which the mortgage money was going into and he didn't check it because he was too busy running the country so he genuinely didn't realise? I don't know what his story is, actually i haven't heard or read very much about why they claimed etc. And actually i think that having GHDs or a toaster is needed if you have a second home and it was ok to claim for these. Anyway I am interested to know what you think Labour have done wrong. From here it looks like we are doing a lot better than other countries and things from here look like they are getting better but maybe its because its sunny. I don't think the tories have the answer, i do like some of their policies but cummon Cameron? Always critical and never with any solutions.
June 3, 200917 yr He's wanted this his whole life. Now he's got it he's not going to give up easily. We're heading towards a Scottish Dictatorship ruling over the UK!
June 5, 200917 yr looks like everyone he was getting rid of quit before getting fired. I wonder why the torries and libs are so desperate for an election right now, could it be because by this time next year everyone would have realised he was actually doing a good job and they will lose?
June 5, 200917 yr well i dont think people are going to vote for a party which wants to cut jobs and i hope people are smarter than that. its not the way to get out of a recession.
June 5, 200917 yr Author Maybe not, but maybe there is no alternative. I see it like this: Labour - People have lost faith, they're practically useless. Lost all of the County Council and Unitary Authority districts they were contesting. Conservatives Take Seats. Conservative - Opposition, Out of power for 12 years, maybe things can change? It's clear they've won all of the Local Elections, so, this could be a strong indication to the results of the next general election. Liberal Democrats - No - Just Kidding. But I think that they will possibly be the next Opposition. UKIP - Strong Contender, But not going to go from Zero-to-Hero Overnight. I.e. They're not going to go from 0 seats in the commons to a 325 Majority in one election. BNP - Far Left, Often regarded as "Fascist" by some - A term which some individuals view as very unpopular, suspicious of or even as "risky" or "dangerous" - Like UKIP, Gaining support and popularity, but, not going to go from Zero-to-Hero. Both UKIP and the BNP share the same problem that they would need to secure continuing strong support over a long period of time before being able to take power. Green Party - In the current financial situation, their Green Environmental Policy may not be popular with some. Just to outline, these are observations and are not intended to reflect on any party.
June 5, 200917 yr i cant believe im sticking up for labour, I want to like the torries so hard! At the moment, people are believing the rubbish the tories and libs are saying, they think labour are doing a bad job but things are starting to get better and people will realise by the end of the summer that the plan is working. they will start feeling the effects. I want to like the tories, but they never offer any solutions except to cut public spending on schools hospitals transport etc by 10%. I dont think anyone will go for that and the move by gordon to bring fighters into the the cabinet will help sway public opinion around. We seen it this week at PMQs. Cameron is running out of steam, all he talks about is gossip and opinion, never anything substantial, and I believe this is the begining of the end for him, today was his high point. I mean how stupid does he think we are to get all of his party to call the world wide recession "gordon browns recession" every time he and one of his party insulted the british people like that i died a little inside.
June 5, 200917 yr Author Haha! Yeah, I understand. But I suppose it all lies on the shoulders of the media. They can make things so much worse than they already are. They are the influence and reason behind public opinion. The media are in control of politics, always have been, always will be, and I think, continued pressure created by the media may ultimate in a General Election.
June 6, 200917 yr I personally am going to be voting monster raving loony. my biggest problem with the current government, is putting us in the EU. its a waste of time and money, so i wouldnt mind UKIP but they just arent popular enough right now.
June 6, 200917 yr I think europe is great, sure we pay a lot but we get a lot back. eg the local college, 3 local cheap office blocks, a new local industrial park, and if you set up in any of those places you cn get some sort of euro business grant. Im defo pro europe, i have never heard a logical anti euro argument ever. maybe you can provide one?
June 6, 200917 yr Author Haha! Lord Mandelson has been made First Secretary of State! Effectively our new Deputy Prime Minister in all but name, That should p*** of Harman. I wish they'd stop merging these super-departments together, it's bizzare. "Schools, Children and Families" ? What happened to "The Department for Education" ? Really?! I can't believe they've merged Uni's and Skills into the Business department. Next it'll be, "Well, the environment is sort of healthy, So welcome; The Department for the Environment, Rabbits, Greenery, The NHS and Health" ! It's stupid.
June 7, 200917 yr My opinion... it would not make a hoot of a difference right now who is in power. The economy is down the drain world wide and no one political party can change that. So to blame the economy i.e. credit crunch on one party is insane. MP's from all parties have had their hands in the sugar pot called expenses.. so to blame one party for the expenses scandel is not logical either. So as far as I can see elections right now would not solve anything.
June 8, 200917 yr Author See ad99, everyone says that. Everyone who you even mention it to says that, and to be honest, I think that, that, is just aload of tosh. yes, the parties are all the same, but that doesn't mean they'll be the same when in office. It's annoying when people claim that. Politicans CAN change the enconomic melt down, they're MEANT to be in charge of a country for christ sake - if they pull their socks up, stop the banks from running the country, and join together to think how we can pull out of this mess then change can happen - right now we're letting the industry "sort its self out" and lending money that we don't have here, there and everywhere. It does make a difference who go in, what if the BNP got in say? Would that be the same and not make a "hoot of difference" between Labour or the Tories being in? I think not! We weren't blaming one party for the expenses scandal at all - My problem, is the sheer incompetence of Brown and his inability to cope with the party and government. The EU election results show that people want and need change (BNP got in), The tories have won the local and EU elections, so mark my words, they'll win the next general election too. Chances are that Labour won't even make the opposition. UKIP or Lib Dems will over take them I think.
June 8, 200917 yr My problem, is the sheer incompetence of Brown and his inability to cope with the party and government. i havent seen any incompetence at all. actually i think he is doing a good job. all of these numbers being thrown about by the tories like the £1.5 trillion in debt is worst case scenario ie if the banks still fail and we cannot recoup our investment. this is very unlikely as we bought at the best time, when they were low. interesting link http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8088721.stm
