Position:clashing with overflow:hidden in IE7

Featured Replies

This problem is stumping me.

I have a div with a set width and height, and overflow:hidden. Inside that div is a dl.

dt + dd is set to display:none, and dt:hover + dd is set to display:inherit, and the dd is absolutely positioned outside the containing div.

This works fine in Safari, Firefox etc. In IE7 however, the position:absolute dd is still being cut off by the dimensions of the containing div (with overflow:hidden). i.e. despite position:absolute supposedly placing an element outside of the document flow, IE7 is still keeping it limited by the dimensions of the containing div, and cutting off the overflow.

Any ideas?

Ah, typically after fighting with it for an hour and writing the forum post, I end up fixing it accidentally by changing the size of the containing div and positioning elements within it.
