May 5, 200917 yr OK I have the graphics finished for my first ever website. It will be a portfolio of my graphics and artwork. I didnt really want a standard clean little protfolio, felt like something with a bit more of a 'rough vintagey' feel about it. This will probably all be tweaked and fiddled with over time but this is what I have for now. The background was originally black but I found it too over powering and the grey is the colour of the Photoshop background which tends to be a graphic designers tool so there is some meaning too it. I have no idea about how to actually put a website together as I have never done it before but have Flash and Dreamweaver from my university so will have to learn how to use them. Any opinions/criticism would be greatly appreciated, obviously the ugly gradients will have work in them when its finished. Any tips on how to learn and put the website together etc... would also be appreciated. Thanks.
May 5, 200917 yr the home page is well set and the header too. There's an interesting contrast between the grid created by the containers of each character and the characters themselves. I'm not sure that a 'rough vintagey' feel has been achieved yet. Try introducing some relevant graphical elements that use the same (or complementary) visual language as the characters on the home page. Together they will better suggest a vintage look and will add interest. For example the design of the boxes that contain content could reflect the style of the text. Icons could be used. The grey background could have parts of huge characters in a very similar grey to add texture. I notice the width of your images is 700 px. Most designers use a width of 960px so that the site will display without horizontal scrollbars on screens of 1024px x 768px. 960 is divisible by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 20, 24, 30, 32, 40, 48, 60, 64, 80, 96, 120, 160, 192, 240, 320, 480 so it's great for pixel grids too.
May 5, 200917 yr Author Ok then thanks I never heard of this 960 pixel thing before I will change it all too 960 pixels thanks for that piece of advice. Yes I think I will keep adding too a developing these graphics and use what i have at the moment as the base for which details can be added. Thanks for the advice.
