Can you give me a rough estimate on what you would expect to pay for the following website

 

Lets pretend I want this exact site designed for myself, and assume there's about 20-30 pages

 

With the site would also come a content management system that allows me to alter a few select pages on a daily basis. Although I would write all the content myself and supply all the images except the banner at the top.

 

I ask as I have had a quote from a web design company that seems overly expensive to me, so I need other opinions, also am I right in thinking getting a quality Indian web design company to do the site is usually cheaper than a UK/US equivalent because of the lower cost of living in India and the exchange rate etc?

 

Thinking about it an estimated quote from a hypothetical Indian/UK/US web design company would be ideal!

Different people will quote different things based upon demand amongst other things, But i'd say you'd be looking at around £1000+ from a uk company/developer.

 

Outsourcing to India is cheaper, but often that's reflected in the quality of the work, i have seen a few Indian companies with top notch work, and there prices didn't differ much from that of UK companies of the same calibre.

 

It also depends on what is behind the login, as i can't see, i can't judge.

 

If you outsource to India, and they disappear, or the site breaks, where do you stand legally?

 

I've heard many a story of people chasing the low prices, only to find that it can cost more in the long run.

I see what you're saying about outsourcing to India, probably not the best idea then.

 

£1000 seems very cheap for 20-30 pages and a CMS on top of that.

 

Yeah alot is blocked by the login, this site is more like what I want and follows the same template

Well it depends about how much custom work is needed, some companies charge alot because absolutely everything is bespoke, others take advantage of what's already there to speed up the process and bring down costs.

 

From my point of view, i'd be looking at taking a system already capable of handling as much of the functionality as possible, then calculating how much modification needs to be done, and whether any features need to be developed that aren't already available.

 

Also how many different pages there are structurally, and then content, if it's a cms, then i'm on the understanding the majority of the actual content is going to be done by the client or whoever they've appointed.

 

In the second site you've linked, there's only 3 different templates, a contact form, a login page, and the forum and perhaps the partners page (depending on how the content input is approached) that i can see.

 

But i'd say you'd be able to get something of that calibre for £1000+ (well, i've seen people offer to do that size site for a few hundred, and other ask nearer the £10,000 mark, as i say, depends on the demand of the company, there costs, there clientèle, amongst other things)

 

Anyway that's just me, some of the others around her may have different things to say

I agree with Bocaj. It does vary alot by the company, and the quality of the work will be reflected in that.

 

for ReaperWebDesign to do that, we would be quoting in the region of £1000 (spot on Bocaj) with a timeframe of 2-3 weeks upon approval of designs with a further week for you to test the site to ensure it works to your specification.

 

Although if i went to an indian company, i would probably pay £300, although that means it would only work in internet explorer, would be coded in tables and would look horrible.
