April 24, 200917 yr Hi everybody, i've just used YSlow for the first time ever on my website and found I had a score of 71, which is a C apparently. I was wondering if this is good, normal or bad? I can't really find a good guide to what I should aim for. What score do you guys have? Does anyone use CDN or is it just a waste of money? Thanks in advance for any answers.
April 24, 200917 yr Generally, for small sites, it's not cost effective. Just ran the test on your site, you should move your js (or as much as possible) to just before the </body> tag, and have a look into expire headers, and that should bump your score up a fair bit, i think that's about as optimised as realistically possible. I've just ran it on a template (literally seconds before checking wdf ) and i've scored horrendously bad on the http requests because of how graphical the template is D: realistically though, if i removed most of them, i'd have nothing left >.< so what i'm saying, is realistically, i can't change that (unless i create some intensely confusing image matrix). Anyhoo, i think most sites can score 60+, obv. the higher the better, but there will always be room for improvement.
April 24, 200917 yr Author strange i haven't touched a thing but i now have a score of 82 ( ... i have this in my .htaccess but still am only getting a D for header expires? not really sure what i'm doing ever with .htaccess so any tips? <FilesMatch "\.(ico|pdf|flv|jpg|jpeg|png|gif|js|css|swf)(\.gz)?$"> Header set Expires "Thu, 15 Apr 2012 20:00:00 GMT" Header unset ETag FileETag None </FilesMatch>
