I am just starting off my interest in Web design and could do with a little helping hand, it's probably so simple, but despite looking around Photoshop and the internet for days I cannot find the answer.

 

When I previously downloaded a photoshop web template and cutomised it, I could edit the exported template in Dreamweaver (actually changing the words).

 

I have since created my own design from scratch, but when I put in some basic wording and export to Dreamweaver, I cannot edit the text and it cuts my design up into a load of images.

 

Please can someone advise how I get around this?

As much as I hate to say it, if you are using this old table-based method you will need to clean up the exported html that photoshop generates under "save for web".

 

To do this you will most likely need to turn off all your copy from the photoshop file, and export all the graphic components using slices. Then do the tweaking within Dreamweaver to turn images into backgrounds so you can insert copy over them.

 

Sitepoint has an old article on this method. I recommend you become familiar with understanding formatting with HTML on your own, and positioning it with CSS instead of tables. A good place to start for all that is W3Schools.
