Best Practices: Aquiring a domain

I'm a bit of a newbie, so please bear with me

I'm looking to buy a domain that is in use, but I doubt the owner would miss it much

http://www.technick.com

I was gonna email the owner directly, but the Who Is returned some kind of thing to protect his real email address.

http://who.is/whois/technick.com/

Will he get my email if I write to the address listed there?

Now my question is how should I go about aquiring the domain? Should I hire on of the "brokers" you see advertised on sedo or godaddy? If I od this "privately" how can I make sure he transfers the domain after I paid him?

One problem could be that he might use nick@technick.com as his email address, do you think that's a problem? I guess I could let him keep that but I have no clue how to go about doing that.

I'd appreciate any advice that could help me buy this domain And I mean any advice, I'm a total newbie when it comes to this...
