I have just joined this forum, and would like to say Hi, looks a great place to improve my design skills.

 

I have decided to have a big push with my new affiliate travel cruise site, so made the steps to redesign it, by trying to appeal to 30-80 yr old's including those new silver surfers.

 

I have a current site live, but has not really taking off, so I have tried to pull the user generated content onto the home page, improved usability & monetisation etc.

 

If anyone can provide feedback that would be brilliant.

Can people please score it out of 100 eg 23/100

 

(I know it's hard from a screen grab, but would be a good insight if I'm going down the right path, before I start the programming.

I have just designed it in photoshop, plan to get the site design 100% spot on before I pass it to a mate to build, there is the old site to compare it to at www.socruise.com

Beautifully organised, good job

1: Sidescroll on 1024*768 (!)

2: "What's socruise" 1: Eh, questionmark? 2: You don't actually tell us what it is. You just tell us what to do

3: Spelling-errors

4: Don't you dare have the banner at the top left corner be nonclickable

5: Search: People don't want to have to search by category. Amazon used to do this. But now they have what is probably the best solution. And so should you

7: Nice font for the headers

It's smart and looks like it ought to exist already, so you've probably got the "feel" right - but...

 

1. If that's going to be the front page, it's way too long - try keeping the home page to 1000-1200 pixels high at most. Push some things onto other pages.

 

2. Too much going on, it looks a bit confused. The use of single lines between sections doesn't really break them up enough - maybe apply a background to section headers?
