I have been working hard to find the right design for my new web design business and need a few review's so i can see if i am on the right track.

 

This is just the mock-up of the home page which was done in Photoshop. Keep in mind though that the logo isn't the finished piece. I just can't decide what to do for it.

 

I am hoping to get my business up and running by the end of march if not before.

So, if anyone fancies offering me their own services, someone i can fall back on, then just pm me and i will keep you in mind if and when i need to out-source.

 

Anyway, some feedback on my mock-up would be very much appreciated. Any business advice would also be welcome.

Looks good so far my friend, one thing that struck me first was the layout, it looks very neat. I couldn't help but notice the spacing at the far left and far right of the navigation menu, they're quite large gaps, perhaps moving those inline with the actual body of the text that would be something worth checking out. As I looked at the image more, I was unable to understand the header image (the clouds) what I'm trying to say is that I don't understand why the image is there..clouds..?? Heaven - death? I don't know..?

 

Besides those few nitpicks, the page looks good and I can't wait to see the live version.

I don't know to be honest. I know i wanted the site to look clean, professional and most of all inviting. Plus i just learn't a little design trick with clouds and i thought i would add it to the design. I might change it?

 

Anyway, thanks for the review Ren, i will certainly keep you posted on how things go.

I may be different to everyone else, but the first thing I thought when I saw it was "disjointed". I really dont like the way the top of that right hand box isnt inline with the main body text. Also I thought the nav bar looks , i dunno, out of place. It just seems to jar with bcakground, I mean you have wispy clouds, a nice sky then WHAM! a hoofing great, solid nav bar. Just doesnt work for me, sorry.

I can't help feeling that the "Free Quote" text is out of place with the rest of the design. Header seems a little too large an area too, perhaps try moving the left and right blocks up a bit and setting them to be ever so slightly opaque so you can see the clouds through them.

I really like the design and how it is shaping up, very nice.

 

Why not try a slight transparency on the nav bar so the clouds show through a little? I think that would look great.

 

One more thing. Under the recent works section, the text to the right of the image looks out of place. Try placing it underneath or at least have it aligned with the top of the image.
