Hi

The website has great feel about it and looks very inviting.

The arrowed line of the middle - three has a letter missing.

Good luck with the site.

It's a nice looking site, although there are always things to criticise, however one thing that I will say is that you're advertising yourself as an "advanced" designer and coder, proficient in xhtml, css and php, yet you fail to remove the note in the css file that says:

/*

CSS Credit: http://www.templatemo.com/

*/

Visual:

  • Your site looks a little incomplete, the alignment is all wrong, there is padding on the right hand side so that the image doesn't touch the drop shadow, however there isn't on the left side, so the "Dream Software" part looks as though it's hanging to the left a little, when it shouldn't.
  • There should be some padding on the four gradient-filled boxes, it's a little overwhelming and looks as though it's about to fall out of the edge, you should also change the colour of the text as it's a little difficult to read.
  • The drop shadow doesn't carry on down to the "copyright 2009" part of your site, making it feel a little incomplete, perhaps add a drop shadow to the bottom of the site, or carry it on beneath the blue band that's above the footer of your site.
  • Not a fan of the shadows of the gradient-filled boxes at all, get rid of them.
  • The menu is really off-putting, slight changes are okay, but the change really is a big one, especially with the border-bottom changing colour too.
  • The background is too plain, give it some texture.

Code:

You have a stylesheet within the file that is just cancelled out by the <!-- --//>, just wondering why this is, if it is because of IE6, then you need to declare it, otherwise either add it to your original style.css file to decrease the size, or you can create a new css file which for the sake of argument, you could call "web.css", then at the top of your style.css add:

@import url('web.css');

You could do the same with the javascript that you have to make your markup a little more meaningful. Put it in a .js file and use the following code:

<script type="text/javascript" src="file.js"></script>

You're using far too many spans & classes when really it's unnecessary, be careful about that.

As an advanced coder/designer, you're making amateur mistakes.

The site looks really nice.

But i think the text in the gray boxes could do with aligning better. It seemed to catch my eye the minute the page opened.

Thanks for your reply, all good stuff.

I think you were jumping the gun a little by analyzing my code as I have not even done that yet. For such an analytic reply I can’t believe you missed the facts that I haven’t even done my meta tags yet. Proof that it is obviously incomplete. I like the design element to be agreed first and the rest will follow. I fully intent to validate all code. believe me this was not 'amateur mistakes'.

As far as the CSS credit is concerned, I used a form design that I seen on one of their templates and I am as strong a believer in giving credit to other developers when I have used their code as I am in not plagiarising work. I thought it was only fair.

Don’t get me wrong you have every right to say what you say and all of it is true and you have helped by giving a check list and telling me what you think would look better.

Thanks mate.

This seems to be the general consensus, I will come up with something else for the boxes and let you all know.

cheers

Code is always much easier to sort if you do it whilst you're working, otherwise you might take something out that messes something up. You asked for a review of your website so I gave you one, not everyone has METAs on their website, so I didn't think it relevant that they weren't there.

One thing, as a designer, you shouldn't be using any other site as a structure for your own site, it'll make people doubt your skill as a designer and therefore not hire you.

You’re probably right but most clients would not and have not looked into the CSS before wanting work done in fact most don’t even know what it is.

I’m not knocking your review what so ever, thanks for the tips.
