Imagemap + Javascript help

Hi

I'm trying to set up a basic site with an image map included. I was going to use a complex array of frames so that when the user clicks on one part of a map the information is shown next to it. This is a bit of a pain and looks a bit pants to be fair. I then came across this link from an old web help forum.

I would like to use this technique or something similar. I was wondering, would i be correct in assuming that if i changed it to an onclick demand the information that would apperar would stay and be accessable until another part of the image map was clicked.
