Hi,

Not sure why this is as relatively new to seo etc. Anyway, why does a site that lists at no. 6 on google.co.uk and not on the first five pages on .co.uk?

the site is a .co.uk site.

thanks in advance...

I'm going to guess you meant to say that it appears #6 on Google.co.uk, but not on Google.com - or vice versa.

This is because the way your site's popularity is worked out (through links on other websites, links to other websites etc.) are then filtered out in .co.uk

So... say you have lots of links on a .co.uk forum, this will make your site very popular in Google's .co.uk terms, but not so much in its .com terms.

These aren't the only factors, but to my knowledge, its the main reason.

To be honest, Google keep their search algorithms hidden, so people only have vague ideas of how Google work out site-popularity at all.

Only just remembered I posted this... the listing of #6 was on google.co.uk the client was wondering why it wa no where near that on google.com if that helps....thanks in advance...

I would say its a question of competition without seeing the website or keyword your talking about. The global market is alot more competitive than the uk specific market on google.co.uk.
