Ability to upload videos?...

Featured Replies

Hey [again] everyone! :)

I've just got a job to do a website for a camera operator and everything is simple enough but I'm struggling with a small part. He's said he wants a page with some video clips of his work (in a flash player?) but he's also said he wants to be able to add videos whenever he's done another shoot etc.

I've never really done anything like this so I was wondering what my options are. The way I can see it is there being a player in the centre of a nicely designed page and there are either thumbs or links below with other videos. As I said before though, he wants to upload videos himself and he doesn't know html etc so that's not an option.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

One of the main things you really need to find out before continuing is the min / max / avg size of the Video files.

If they're of a large size, PHP may not be a good idea to use to upload them. So you may need to go for a Flash script to buffer the upload. Alternatively, give him FTP access and get him to upload the .swf's to a set directory.

As for him uploading new videos and the site being updated without your client knowing any HTML / PHP. Write a PHP script that reads a list of the files in the set directory.. use PHP to loop through these.

Done!

Hope this is of help!

Thanks for the reply but my PHP isn't that good so I wouldn't even know where to start. I'll keep having a look around though, if you've got any specific places you recommend then let me know :)

Anyone else?...

<?php
$files = array();
$files = scandir($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']."folder/");

$i=2;
for($i;$i<count($files);$i++) {

  // loop through the files in the Directory
  echo $files[$i];

}
?>

Just manipulate the for loop to do what you wanna do.. the example I quickly wrote will just echo out the names of the files in the folder 'folder' contained in the same folder as the php script.

Hope this helps :]
