November 29, 200817 yr Just a reminder to all those people who have websites that calculate the VAT on shopping items. The UK VAT rate is dropping to 15% on the 1st of December so all the sites using the 1.175 calculation will need to be changed ! Just thought you'd like to know !
November 29, 200817 yr We have always designed all of our apps to use a database table to track VAT rates, so for our clients, it has been as easy as changing that VAT rate to 15.0%. This is also useful if your client sells things that can be vat rate zero, e.g. books. So if anyone is changing VAT rates this weekend, then my advice is to dedicate this time to creating an extra database table to handle your VAT rates, this way when the VAT rate changes back to 17.5% next year, this will be a very simple task.
December 1, 200817 yr you can just do global changes on most shopping carts to change vat. Zencart can change vat from admin in 1 click. how ever if people want price to remain the same (ie make a little extra money) you need to multiply your net prices by 1.175 then devide by 1.15 so that when the 15% is added for the vat the price is the same as before VAT changed.
