Could someone please explain the basics of SSL for me. The limit of my understanding is that I need to purchase a certificate to make the https connection. However:

 

1. How does purchasing a certificate enable https?

 

2. I am running Cpanel if that makes any difference.

 

3. Where does it go on the website, is there some code to be added?

 

4. I understand there are different grades of certificate that you can purchase. What level should I use for a Leukemia website and a database of patient blood results?

 

5. Where's the best place to purchase the certificate?

 

And anything else I might need to know.
