Dreamweaver working with a team...

Featured Replies

I work in a very small team (just 2 of us) and we need to be able to work off the same website at the sametime.

At the moment we are using Dreamweaver with its check in/check out facility. We have the site set up locally on our machines that transfer files to a "staging server" which is a network server with XAMPP (apache, mysql etc) running.

We then have a second site set up that transfers files from the the "staging server" to a "live production server" (the actual live website).

So once you have made changes, moved and checked it to the staging server. You can then go to the defined live site and upload the files from the staging server to the live server.

In theory this all should run and work smoothly. The problem is that Dreamweaver's checking in and out doesn't always work and give "access denied" errors.

Is this the best way to do this? Or is there any alternatives to this system.

Thanks in advance,

Simon

Have you looked at macromedia contribute

  • Author

Not really as we both use Dreamweaver. I don't really see what Contribute would offer against Dreamweaver? Dreamweaver allows us the ability to change anything on a website. Contribute is geared towards content editing and creation.

But thank you for your suggestion. I was thinking more along the lines of using Dreamweaver alongside something to be able to work on the same site without any problems.

Im going to be watching this post becuase me and my friend are wondering about this atm, its causing problems lol

Any Help for me and simonb?

Ben
