November 9, 200817 yr Well you can design @ 40,000*22,000,000 if you like (not advised, or POSSIBLE) but as long as it's MADE for 1024 it'll be fine

The trick is to create a psd which will not be wider than 1024px - in fact a little less than 1024 is advisable to make room for the scroll bar. I recommend a maximum of 980px. When you open a create a new psd document, a window will appear asking you what size and resolution you would like. Create the document at the size you want, and off you go.

Create the document at the size you want, and off you go. I agree with this. However, I would also add that you should consider your audience. If you're designing a site for senior citizens, then you should keep it at 800x600 because most will be on a widescreen but have their resolution set to something lower so they can see the text better, etc.
