October 19, 200818 yr Hi, I have recently been told that for a client to make changes to a website which I have produced I should look at PHP/MySQL and Content Management software. I assume this also covers the client adding to a blog? But I am completely lost with the topic and wondered if anyone has any idea where to start with trying to teach myself about this subject, because its all a bit confusing at the moment. Mainly I am trying to find a way that clients can add weekly gig updates, with pictures, for example to a site that I have made, and also maybe find a way that I can incorporate a blog into my website without having to upload my website to the net everytime I make changes. Any help will be appreciated, thanks!!

Hi the way a CMS works is by uploading information to the database(mysql) then displaying this information on the required web page to do this you can create a admin area on the backend of the site giving it a password protection,if the information to be displayed is a image you can upload the image to a folder called uploads and storeing the root of the image in the database eg uploads/myimage.jpg then displaying the image on the page, its not that hard to write one yourself but if you want the easy option try http://www.cushycms.com/ but if your like myself and wish to write everything your self try to learn the basics of php mysql then learn how to select update and insert into mysql first, just google mysql tutorials you will soon pick it up good luck

Popular ones are Wordpress and Movable Type The best I have found over years of use full time is ExpressionEngine. ExpressionEngine costs a little $99.00/personal - 250.00 commercial, (with a free core version), but makes that up very quickly in ease of use, configurability, and features. See the Announcement on EE. Bluedreamer did an excellent writeup on it. One can use it to power any type of site and also add a blog. We have even used one install to power separate domains on the same server.
