    Are you linking to the javascript files? For example if they are external .js files you have to link to them in the head of the page

    <script src="samplejs.js" type="text/javascript" language="javascript"></script>

    This will link to "samplejs.js" and tell your page to use the javascript in this document and apply it to your page as neccesary.

    Ok the # is there because your links are linking to it due to javascript

    <li><a href="#" title="content_1" class="tab">Artists</a></li>

    As far as i can tell the site is working properly? I especially like how you did the artist gallery kudos on a job well done for that.

    If i could make a suggestion having the background div change size for me personally is kind of off putting and it feels cut off. Perhaps make a div for the background and make it go from the nav to the footer and you can still use javascript to animate it using a fade in like this

    $(".tab").click(function(){ $("#background_div).fadeIn(500); });

    That code is probably wrong because i just woke up but you get the idea.

    *edit* I should add that code is assuming you are using jquery.
