Golden Seal - Adobe Fireworks CS3

Featured Replies

Thanks to Designer_Karly I have found a neat little tutorial describing how to create a Golden Seal with Fireworks. Having never used the software before I have naturally ran into some difficulties and I would appreciate your help :)

One problem with the tutorial is that it will say something like Give the starburst a gradient fill going upwards, from #DDA600 to #FFEB77 but it doesn't go on to say how. It assumes you know how to apply a gradient fill. In a way it is quite useful as it allows me to play around with the various panels and options until I get it to do what I want, but at times it can be a little frustrating.

I have run into problems with the second part of the tutorial.

Use the Ellipse Tool to create an outer circle, centered over the starburst. Then, use the Text Tool to create a couple of center-justified text objects that will form parts one and two of your accompanying text. Center them horizontally over the circle you just made, align the top of the first part of text with the top of the circle, and align the bottom of the second part of text with the bottom of the circle. After this, create another circle, this time smaller than the first one, with its top touching the bottom of the first part of text, and its bottom touching the second part of text. This arrangement ensures that your texts are perfectly aligned along concentric paths once you attach them to the circles.

I can understand this completely it is just doing it that is the problem. I have created the first "outer circle" and aligned two text objects with the circle. The problems arises when I try and create the second circle which needs to be smaller than the first and needs to touch the bottoms of each text object. I can't manage to create a circle that is the correct size.

Here is what I have so far. The circle has an opacity of around 50 so you can see what is going on.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks guys :)

Nevermind.

Shift & Alt to draw the circle from the center point. Here is the finished article.

Not perfect by any means. I know the bottom text should be a couple of pixels higher. My first outer circle must not have been positioned correctly. Not to worry as you learn from your mistakes :)
