In Topic: What software do web developers use?

Here's what I use...
Coding: Netbeans 7.0 - The editor i used to love was Aptana, but I ragequit the program because it didn't have a simple file syncing solution and I didn't enjoy creating projects on my actual server. Netbeans has this and it's absolutely perfect in my eyes for the type of work I do (mostly PHP & javascript)
Design: Inkscape & Gimp - I know how to get the most out of free software
Web: Firefox, Chromium, Opera -
In Topic: jquery onchange cause a loop
03 November 2011 - 12:36 AM
ELITE, on 02 November 2011 - 07:28 PM, said:Hi all, i am just learning more about jquery, i have on a website a shipping calculator that works from a link, it pops up and you select the country and press a submit button to calculate shipping for your country, i have changed this to be inline with the rest of the basket details, so onchange it calculates the shipping, the problem i have with this is it will not calculate shipping onload.
so using jquery i have triggered an onchange event which works but then puts the page in a loop so another country can not be selected.
<script> $(document).ready(function() { $('#myselect').trigger('change'); }) </script> <select id="myselect" name="country_id" onchange="this.form.submit();">
is there away around this or am going about it the wrong way
Thank you
I hope I'm not misunderstanding your question. You want to calculate shipping onload, right? Did you try this bit of code?
$(function(){ $(window).bind("load", function(){ //calculations }) })

In Topic: please critique my web design site

Not a bad design at all in my opinion, but your choice of content and it's presentation needs a lot of improvement in my opinion. As a whole, I like the design concept in that it has a sort of uniqueness, but there are a bunch of tiny things that can be worked on. For example:
- Logo: I would try and horizontally align the "Second Sighting/Web Design, SEO & PPC" text with the actual logo. Little things like that bug me xD Also, I personally would put the actual logo on the left of the text as opposed to the right. This is just my personal preference though.
- Font: Sorry, but I'm not liking the font of the green text at all. Not to mention, it doesn't look crisp....or maybe that's just my computer screen. dunno. In any case, I think you can use a much better font. One that's more.....rounded. Also, I think you should consider using a darker and paler sort of green and different variations of the base color as it would match the colors in the actual logo.
- As a last suggestion, I think it would look nice if you moved that text on the upper right hand side of the page on to the actual picture of the moon as opposed to having it level with the logo; it sort of takes away the impact of the actual logo by doing this.
