    To be honest until you're very familiar with PHP (and Zend knowledge would benefit you greatly when dealing with Magento) I'd completely stay away from it for now.

    Depending on your budget I'd either suggest sub-contracting out the work to a developer or going for a smaller ecommerce platform (although you still probably will need to dabble with some php).

    Assembla offers free private SVN repositories and is probably the easiest of the widely known ones. There's tones of SVN tutorials out there and a great tool called TortoiseSVN for a GUI.
