  1. Client site not viewable?!?

    22 May 2012 - 02:55 PM

    Hi,

I have a client who says that his website will not load using the wif-fi at his store. But will load at home and on his mobile using 3G. But.. can view every other website on the internet fine?!

He has contacted talktalk and the router company (belkin) and then decided to call and explain this to me. I cannot see how this could be website related, I would have thought it would be something to do with his internet connection.

    Could you please
    a) see if the site loads for you!?
    B) Give me your opinion on what you think this issue could be please?!

    Thanks in advance
  2. Referral Fee?

    02 May 2012 - 07:56 PM

    Hi,

I was passed some details recently from a local magazine owner, whose friend of a friend needed a website. I got the project. Great.
Now the magazine guy has asked if I give out a referral fee and how much it is....!?

I have returned the favour by passing some print work his way but it got me thinking; Do I pay a referral fee? How much so I pay?

What's your thoughts and ideas on this? Do you do this?

    Cheers.
  3. IE8 & 7 Issue?

    30 April 2012 - 09:19 AM

    Hi,

I am building a static one page website which works fine for me in all IE versions but my client says the text is not where it should be, but it looks fine to me.
Would you mind taking a quick peek for me using IE8 and 7 and seeing if it's just the client getting the issue or not.

    Thanks in advance.

Here is the screenshot of what the client sees: (It looks as thought the CSS isn't working - I'm not sure if they have viewed the site whilst in development and they need to clear their cache??!!)
  4. WordPress Hacked

    21 April 2012 - 05:46 PM

    Hi,

I had two WP sites hacked over two days. Both on the same hosting server.

When viewing the website, it actually had webpage with blank background, starts and corny text saying that I have been hacked blah blah, and "Im proud to be Indian." Also with cheesy music. :(
I logged into the FTP and found a few files a had been added. index.html was added, index.php had been removed, 404.php had been added and this next file:
    wysiwgPro_preview_eacf331foffc35d4b482f1d15a887d3b.php with a file type of application/x-httpd-php

    Not sure what that is?!

How I knew was that WP sent me an email to say that I had forgotten my password and that it had been reset. I managed to get back in by changing the password in phpmyadmin. The guy had added his email address into my User Profile too.

What I want to know is; How did this guy get into the backend by changing my password and how did he alter the files in my FTP?

The other worrying thing is that he went and did it all over again to another website on the same server. Same method etc. Has this guy got details to my other sites?? If so, How?

I understand that it may be an impossible question to answer but I would love to find out if any of your guys have an idea?

    Thanks in advance.
  5. Web Site Sign Off Procedure?

    13 April 2012 - 01:45 PM

    Hi,
I've been freelancing as a Web Designer/Dev now for just over a year and have a couple of regular clients in the way of Media Agencies.
I build the website on my server for them and their clients to see, make amends etc and then once they are happy, I upload the website to their domain.
Then send off my Invoice for payment.

Payment can then be received anytime from 2-3 days or 3-4 weeks. Which is a total nuisance on most occasions.

Would you recommend that I ask for payment in full before setting the website live? Is this how others do it?
Or am I being too picky?

Currently I set the website live, send off the invoice which says 14 days until payment is due. Then I end up chasing half of those up.

    Thanks in advance
