  1. VPS pricing: pls can someone explain?

    09 January 2012 - 03:13 PM

    Hi folks

A friend of mine is looking to move a huge website from their existing server as the current server admin is throwing in the towel.

I promised to help her find a good deal, but I've never used VPS/ dedicated before, so I wasn't prepared for the huge difference in prices out there.

If anyone could give me a brief run-down of what I need to know before choosing a vps host, I'd be much obliged.

    Thanks :)
  2. Does this sound like a cookie problem?

    06 January 2012 - 11:24 AM

    Hi folks

A client of mine recently asked me to move his prestashop installation to my server as his old server account was too slow.

Everything went well, except for one thing: some of the customers are unable to proceed once they leave the prestashop site and go to paypal to make their payment. They either run into a blank page, or a page where the paypal login form won't operate.

I've been unable to replicate this issue in any browser, and my client contacted paypal support who said they couldn't either.

So it occurred to me - maybe people who'd visited the site before the server change may have run into cookie problems after the server change? The domain name is the same but of course the IP is different.

Any other thoughts would be much appreciated.

It's a very old version of prestashop that's not been kept up to date. I've advised an upgrade but client has no budget for this at the moment.

    Thanks for reading :)
  3. opencart search help

    27 November 2011 - 05:44 PM

    Hi folks

It seems choosing opencart for my most recent project wasn't the best move I've ever made. It seems like nice software, but there's NO DEVELOPER DOCUMENTATION!!

Anyway, I'm modifying the default template to suit my client's content, and I've run into a problem. I want to add a search box in the main content area, but I can't seem to find a way to do it without conflicting with the main search field at the top (which I need to stay where it is for every other page but the main page).

So what I've come up with is this:
The top search field is absent on the home page thanks to this bit of code
    if ($this->request->get['route'] !== 'common/home') { search code }

but it's not perfect as it only works when you go to mydevuri.com/index.php?route=common/home and not mydevuri.com/ which is irritating the crap out of me.

So, anyone know how to either a: tell opencart when I'm on the home page regardless of which URI variation is active, or b: how to get a search box on the page that doesn't interfere with the main one at the top.

    Thanks awfully :flm7:
  4. Has the Ling thread been deleted?

    24 October 2011 - 03:36 PM

If so, I'd love to know why. If not, can't see it anywhere - has it been moved?
  5. Recommend a digital products e-commerce platform

    21 October 2011 - 05:34 PM

    Hey up folks

I'm looking for any recommendations you have for a reliable and stable e-commerce script for a single digital product. I'm undecided about using a hosted service, and I'd like to know what the alternatives are.

    Thanks :)

    No, Can't say I have...
Haven't had much time to read for fun recently. Too many books about Engagement marketing, Law and Digital Communities.
Soon though. I will add it to my list to read.

Have also read revenge of Gaia, found it on a train one time. Think I gave away my copy in the same vein. Very inspiring to think differently I thought.
And to question what is thought of as 'correct'.
