  4. Building a portfolio

    02 July 2011 - 12:41 PM

I need to build a portfolio because a few people have asked to see it and its pretty embarrassing and getting beyond a joke that I still don't have one. Given that most of my work is sub-contracted I want to get opinions from people here as to what's safe to put in your portfolio...

Say Digital Agency Z win a contract with BMW to build a web application, Digital Agency Z then hire you to do it (or parts of it). Do you put BMW down on your portfolio? or Digital Agency Z? or what I'm thinking is "BMW via Digital Agency Z"? I'm guessing that BMW in this case would probably be none the wiser that it was you that actually did the work, so it could lead to some legal problems? I've looked through a few of my old contracts and confidentiality agreements and I've not found anything expressly forbidding you to say that you worked on a certain project, but I'm worried it might piss off the agency, which worst case scenario could lead to them not working with me anymore.

The easiest solution would be to simply not include sub contracted work but its obviously going to make a massive difference to my portfolio, most of my own clients are just like 'Big Davies skip hire' whereas I've been subcontracted to work for well known brands like banks and multinational manufacturers, etc.

    Opinions?
  5. WDF Coding challenge #3

    WDF coding challenge #3

    Pascal's Triangle Challenge

Write a web application to compute the value of a given position in Pascal's Triangle (See below).

        1
       1 1
      1 2 1
     1 3 3 1
    1 4 6 4 1

The way to compute any given position's value is to add up the numbers to the position's right and left in the preceding row. For instance, to compute the middle number in the third row, you add 1 and 1; the sides of the triangle are always 1 because you only add the number to the upper left or the upper right (there being no second number on the other side).

The application should prompt the user to input a row and a position in the row. The application should ensure that the input is valid before computing a value for the position.
