In Topic: Web development vs web design

Normally when companies post jobs they will do it using these two terms
Web Designer - Designs the graphical interface of the website and can do the front end coding of the site, html css maybe Javascript, flash. So really if the site is just a static site a web designer should be able to put it all together.
Web Developer- Develops the back end of the site to make more dynamic sites functional, so creating style e-commerce sites and the such...normally a very good knowledge of html, css, php, mysql, maybe even asp and any other types of languages that could be used to build up the functionality of a complex site.
I don't think these days you will find many companies that look for a web designer who just makes layouts and doesn't coded up the front end of sites, as that just isn't really cost effective...there are the acception with some larger scale companies but the majority do look for someone with working web knowledge, as they might as well just hire any graphic designer if you aren't looking for someone to code the sites they design. -

I don't think you're a dishonest person, you're just trying to get a lot for pretty much nothing... but hey as they say if you don't ask you will never know
If you think $130 per site is the going rate for a 2 page website why not approach a design agency with this request, as they could give you exactly what you want from your sites and that way you will know what you are getting. Plus I'm sure a design agency is talent enough to make 23 sites look different to one another.
Good luck, this my bow out of this thread, as I don't think any price changes or word play will ever make me think of this as a competition. -

Its quite hard to guess what your code is doing as I am guessing that it is coded for wordpress and that creates the posts on your left.
If you look at the code that it is creating within the browser:
<div id="main"> <div id="maincontent"> <div class="post-item"> (your post is here just took it out to save space) </div><!--end post item--> <div id="main"> <div id="maincontent"> <div class="post-item"> (your post is here just took it out to save space) </div><!--end post item--> </div><!--end maincontent--> <ul id="sidebar">...ect
your opening a main, opening a maincontent, opening a post-item, posting item, closing post, opening another main, opening another main content...ect then you only close one main and one main content not all 3 that you do actually produce in the code.
So I am only guessing here that in the actual code that you are creating you have put the main and maincontent ids into the loop for your posts, so when it cycles to show the next post it adds an extra main and maincontent into the code that the browser renders. Have a look at the php and make it so the loop starts after these two containers not before.
Then if I am right that should fix the issue -

The menu of the site is nice, but the load time is an issue for me but I think that because I am impatient
The rest of the site I am undecided on, its not bad, but I think there might be too much going on and too many mashes of styles. It's soft and blocky at the same time and that doesn't really work. But something else just doesn't feel right about it I just don't know what it is, I know that's not a lot of help, sorry.

06 Aug 2009 - 19:25I'm not working with web-design any more. Hence my absence. But it's still a passion of min, so it's stuck as a hobby. Got a boost of inspiration to a new website project I've been planning for a while now. Sure miss doing this kind of work.
