  1. Thanks for putting my mind at ease. It just didn't sit right with me. They obviously put a lot of work into the site, and there are no actual clues as to any products or service they offer. The site is permanent-makeup.org.uk/index.html Weird.
  2. Hi all I was searching my company name yesterday, to find any third party articles I could link to, and stumbled across a very weird site. It has a huge amount of pages and links to internal pages. It contains really blatant keyword paragraphs that don't read right: EG: "Dermace offers excellent variety of semi permanent makeup supplies. It also offers these semi permanent makeup supplies at very affordable prices. Dermace has spend considerable amount of time and has taken great care in ensuring that all their products are of the best quality and are affordable as well. The range of semi permanent makeup supplies supplied by Dermace continues to expand as well as evolve which means that it pays to check back with them to see what new items are available. Dermace offers pigment ranges that provide you excellent value for your money and these items of semi permanent makeup supplies are perfect for use by professional permanent makeup artists. There are various shades available in each of their collections and you can also get a free pigment for the price you pay for a kit. Lustrous Lip Collection is available at 144.95 pounds while a Universal Lip kit would cost 202.95 pounds." There are also pages with similar content about our competitors. There is an 0845 number and a random-sounding gmail contact address. They don't offer any services, it's all just information - but I feel like they're trying to trade off my name, and the name of my competitors. The site seems to have no purpose other than to mention key phrases constantly. Should I be concerned? The section I quoted above may not seem all that strange, but some of the other pages are just relentless with their key phrases.
  3. Well - you know when you keep reading and re-reading a subject without it soaking in? I just couldn't get my head around the redirects, and if it wasn't for the facility in my cpanel, I probably still wouldn't. In any case - it seems to be sorted now. Many, many thanks for your response.
  4. Many thanks for your response. I have been reading a little about 301 redirects, but my knowledge is just not good enough to understand them totally. I have just been snooping through cpanel on my hosting software and it seems there is a facility for 301 redirects. I'm going to take a look at this and report back
  5. Hi all I recently replaced a website I created in dreamweaver, for a new site I created in rapid weaver. The old site performed well from an seo point of view, but was not great aesthetically. I love the look of the new site, but google is getting confused about which pages from which site to return in search results. I have given the pages in the new site different names to those on the old site (not intentionally, just in an attempt to tidy things up.) When I search for my desired keywords, google sometimes returns pages from the old site - obviously they have no active pages behind them anymore. I replaced the site three weeks ago, and I’ve submitted the new site for indexing twice. My question- does my quest for first page organic listings have to start from scratch again? How long will google take to fully embrace my new site? Many thanks - site is dermace.co.uk

    iPad 2,

    I couldn't agree more.

    iPad 2,

I have the first one - but hardly ever get to use it. It's in almost constant use - one of the best things I bought for the family. For what we use it for though, it's not worth me upgrading just yet. As for "Apple tax" - it's a bit short-sighted really. Cost of ownership is far less than devices of a similar ilk. Just take a look at the iPhone: iP4 - £500 new - £350 in 12 months time = £150 to own HTC Desire - £450 new - £200 in 12 months = £250 to own Sammy Galaxy S - £450 new - £180 right now (6 months?)= it's too painful to type it.
  8. hi all Simple one: I use Dreamweaver 8 to create sites, sometimes from templates. What advantages would I see if I upgraded to the latest DW?
  9. Thanks for your feedback. For our online store, I use a system from tiger commerce. Even though it's a cms (in the same way that Squarespace is) it actually has fields for each product and page for meta desc and keyword. That particular site is ranking very well indeed, as is the homepage after I tweaked the meta data. I guess as some of you have said, it could just be the icing on the cake. cheers all.
  10. hi all I'm a very low-level web designer (term used loosely). I create web sites on dreamweaver, normally based on templates and altered with photoshop. I have created a dozen or so websites that seem to function well enough - but I have a few question you may be able to help me with: I have been filling in the meta description and keywords in the code section of dreamweaver fairly religiously. It seems to be working to a degree, but after taking a look at the source code for some other websites, I notice they don't have meta data listed in the same way I do. They seem to make reference to: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" Does this mean that the meta data is found in the website copy? The reason I still alter/maintain this data is because when I took over the management of my wife's website from it's original webmaster, the meta data was littered with irrelevant and mis-spelled terms. After I corrected them, and spruced up the site a little, the organic performance was much improved. I considered using squarespace recently, to create and maintain the sites I produce. Seemed easier and more manageable (iphone app etc). However, they mention that meta data in the way I have described above has been irrelevant for more than five years now?? They advocate the use of as many trusted links to your site as possible - which is know is useful, but I had no idea it was as crucial as they make it out to be. I'm confused now, to be honest. What I do with dreamweaver works well enough at the moment (although the templates I use can sometimes confuse the hell out of me!) - but I'd like to know I'm not on a fools errand with this meta data thing. cheers all
  11. I think there may be a little artistic snobbery going on here. I would advise you to seek development in the areas you feel you are lacking. It's far more gratifying, and allows you the freedom that striking out on your own should encourage.
  12. Thanks very much for that. I managed to get it sorted in the end, but thanks for your help - it's much appreciated
  13. Many thanks for taking the time to reply Wesh. For what it's worth, I did look on this forum first, and clicked on your link. However, being a noob, the front page just went straight over my head, and so (looking for confidence) I just hit the indy reviews of hosting companies and came across HPapa. They have replied to a ticket I sent in saying: Thank you for your inquiry. Your HostPapa hosting plan allows you to host an unlimited number of "Add-On" domains that appear completely separate. There is no additional charge to host these domains but they must first be registered either by HostPapa OR the registrar of your choice. For more information on Registering your Addon with HostPapa OR Registering your Addon with another Registrar: http://hostpapasupport.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=18 How do I set-up an Add-On Domain? See this article at the HostPapa knowledge base: http://hostpapasupport.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=272 Our prices for domains are as followed: .com, .net, .org, .biz & .info domains are £9.99 +VAT per year. .co.uk, .org.uk and .me.uk domains are £19.98 +VAT, registered for a minimum of two years. If you would like to purchase a domain from HostPapa, please reply with your requested domain name and we will forward your ticket to our Domains Department who will then provide you with additional information and process your request accordingly. HostPapa is primarily a Web Host and acts only as a Registrar for the convenience of our customers, which may be the reason that our domain registration fees are not as competitive. I hope that helps, and please let us know what you decide.
  14. Hi all I'm new to this malarkey, and have recently invested in a years hosting with hostpapa. It's unlimited everything, which seemed at odds with what I was seeing at 1&1 et al, but independent reviews seemed pretty good, sooooooo...............I went for it. Anyway, before ordering I asked the online help thing: "can I have multiple domains running on this account?" He said yes. Anyway, one of the reasons I asked this was because I wanted to host about 6 small sites with their own addresses. You get a free domain name for life with the 1 year signup, so I got one of the domains I wanted - but now I need to add another. Would this mean I'd also get the relevant email addresses for each domain? Anyway, domains: You can add them through HP, but they're $24.99 per year. 123reg are £2.99 for two years. Am I missing something? As I said, I am a noob. Can't I buy from 123reg and then transfer the domain to HP? Sorry for the rambling style.........
  15. He's a bully, plain and simple. You "screwed him" on a price for work he never went ahead with AND even put him in touch with his current supplier. It's a shame things needed to get to this, but as someone previously stated - give them no quarter. Document the lot, even if they ARE mates or you get on well. Glad you got it sorted. It's tough trying to explain to some people that you'll undertake the logo for £25 IF they go ahead on the full order. They like to think they can take advantage regardless. I have been on the other side of this though - when you ask for a quote and then you end up with a bill for the job that they've taken it upon themselves to commence.
