  1. In Topic: New Blog Page Goes Wrong in IE7

    27 January 2012 - 10:41 AM

    Thanks for the suggestion but I'm still not having any luck unfortunatley, I think this may require a slight restructuring of the html rather than the css. It's always a let down when something works in most places but not others.

    Before I go ahead an start deconstructing the page does anybody have any other ideas where I've messed up here. It's baffling that I can get the first post to display correctly and the rest go wonky, I have tried floating all the elements and setting widths but to no avail.

    Very grateful for all help received

    Many Thanks

    Luke
  2. In Topic: IE6 on WIndows XP

    I have along with the company I work for decided that it is no longer lucrative to support IE6 in the sense of making everything look exactly the same as the site does in IE8 , firefox etc.

    We found that we would spend a lot of time making jquery powered elements look right almost doubling the production time of the website if we were doing anything particularly fancy or modified. We took the decision that we would support IE6 by offering clients the choice of IE6 friendly alternatives which only show on the IE6 version of the site and to also have a message letting the site users know that the experience they are witnessing doesn't reflect exactly what they would if they were to use a newer browser. You only have to try and visit some of the most visited websites on the web to see that this is an approach that they are taking. Facebook being an example where the chat feature is completely eradicated if you try and browse with an old browser.

    All of our clients and their users have been happy with this approach so far and of course if they specifically ask for IE6 to be supported we will negotiate a price for doing so.

    It is important that your site looks and functions the best it can in all browsers so if you have to spend a little longer just tidying things that have dropped completely out of line in certain browsers then it's certainly worth getting those sorted.

    It's a catch 22 the longer you support IE6 the longer it will hang in there for , but if you don't have some sort of structure to make the site run as best it can in all browsing environments you might be losing your clients important business leads.

    Don't ignore IE6 but don't kill yourself over it either.

    Give this a try buddy

    $(window).load(function() {
        $(".anyClass").jCarouselLite({
            btnNext: ".next",
            btnPrev: ".prev"
        });
    });

    Cheers mate I'll try it in the morning and let you know :)

    Many Thanks
  5. In Topic: A job site

    When I mock up a design I usually set anything that will be plain text to have no smoothing etc. This saves clients from going "In firefox the text looks merghhh in comparison to the mockup" You'll usually find that when they see it in a browser the plain text areas will look even better than they did in the mockup and you're less likely to get silly comments about how the text is rendered.

    Other than that I really like the colour scheme and it seems to fit with the site.
