Spoof/parody website on technology
Posted 1 Jun 2010
One of the many random ideas I sometimes have about various things involves setting up a website (blog) which is essentially a spoof/parody/p*sstake website on matters and people relating to technology - so kinda like The Onion for example, but only for technology which would be aimed at technology geeks... Something to look at on your lunch break for example, to take a quick escape out of reality if you will.
Would anyone be interested in regularly visiting such a website, and also would anyone be interested in being authors on the site?
I invisage the articles on the site to be either spoof (i.e. fake) news stories, or spoof articles based on actual events (slightly) - if that makes sense?
Any authoring would be completely voluntary by the way, I would pay for the domain name(s) and hosting myself, and for setting up the site.
I might consider setting up advertising on the site, but that's probably for something later down the line if the site is popular?
All feedback (i.e. "what a cool idea" or "what a sh*t idea") is welcome, this is just in idea mode in my head at the moment but I wanted to gauge what you lot thought about it. -
If you see SPAM
Posted 11 May 2010
Whilst the majority of posts on these forums are genuine, the odd rogue element sometimes appears and posts up spam.
Rather than replying to the message with some "witty" remark, please use the REPORT button which is located at the bottom-left hand corner of the post you want to report (if you want to report a whole thread, report the first post in that thread).
It makes all our lives easier as members don't need to read through spammy posts, and moderators will be able to instantly ban any spammers on the forums - thus stopping them from posting their crap up again.
On behalf of the moderating and admin team I would like to thank the people that do regularly report spam to us, and hope that the rest of you will be able to help us in combatting this nuisance on our community forums.
Thanks.

WordPress MU + BuddyPress or Elgg
Posted 6 May 2010
I'm after setting up something similar to Ning for a couple of projects I'm working on. One of them needs to be able to offer a paid membership system somehow.
I'd rather use WP simply because I've used it extensively in the past and know how to develop plugins etc. for it, Elgg I've never used before - had a quick play with it locally this morning but doesn't seem very user friendly (from an admin point of view)? -
Politics in the UK

I don't know if it's just me that has this view, but why is it that you only get made aware (or to put it another way, bombarded with junk mail/phone calls) of the parties during elections.
If they are trying to make a name for themselves, surely they should be interested in doing more all the time and not just slagging off whatever party is running the country/other parties?
