I like Firefox because of it's versatility and being able to customise it with extenions and add-ons - I would be lost without the developer & Firebug toolbar. :)

I like it cos its open source, easily skinnable, and has nothing to do with the makers of Vista or Bill Gates :friends: :clapping:

I got it because i heard from a lot of designers it was a better browser than IE (this was when i had windows) so i use it for that reason.

Dunno. Never had any problem like that with firefox, try re-isntalling it
.

If the whole world used firefox, web design would be sooooo much easier.

Stop using IE6 / 7 PLEASE use Firefox

I clung to Firefox 1.somethingerrother until last month, but my last three updates for FF1 all had major bugs; namely, whenever I tried to open a new tab while an existing tab was loading, the whole thing crashed. So I upgraded to FF2 and have only had the tiniest of issues since then.

I dont see why its the best.

They say its faster - opera is faster than FF for me

But FireFox is a awesome browser, with the plugins I run I would be lost without them. That is where Opera is lacking IMO.

I've been very tempted at switching to Opera, but it is the Firefox extensions that holds me back.

I'm exactly the same, I used to be an avid Opera user but switched to Firefox due to the extensions.

With the new Opera that's in development, they say it's lightning fast as has better support for CSS3. :)

I like firefox because it has tons of extendibility, add-ons and is highly customisable. It's also much more secure than IE and reads code better than it (but not as correctly as Opera does). It's also simple and easy to use and doesn't hide much stuff away - unlike IE where you have to go through dialogue box after dialogue box to change one simple option.

I've been using Firefox for years now and when I came to try Opera, I just didn't prefer it, although its widgets are cool and it too is pretty smooth. Just don't stick with IE: its microsoft, slow, has security holes and just isn't very customisable.

I agree, plus the IE Developer Toolbar is really poor in comparrison to Firefox's. I can't see myself switching from Firefox for a long time. I also use extensions to increase speed performance even further.

:)

I'm not really sure if IE got that many more security holes. Every browser got security holes. I'd never trust any of them to be safe, which is why I got firewall and anti-virus proection.

I prefer opera over firefox but then at prefer IE7 to FF as well :-D I've really taken a dislike to firefox once it got to 1.5 but I used to love it at 0.7. Opera widgets are helping with extendability.

I love FF because of large number of extensions, themes etc available. This reduces the monotony of seeing the same thing and using the same type of tools.

TBH I don't really have a preference between IE and FF and have never ventured into Opera or Safari etc.

I do like Firefox but don't quite get the add-ons talk.

Can anyone explain?

Much appreciated ElanMan, thanks alot :)

FF seems to be more can I say "with it".... aren't FF CSS3 compliant at the moment as opposed to the "stoneage" IE?

For me, firefox is the best because of its cool and useful plugins. It also works faster and efficient.

I too have a similar predicament as some others have previously stated. Recently I downloaded a portable version of Opera 9.5 as I was curious to know how it differed from IE and Firefox. I had only just started using Firefox regularly with the release of Firefox 3.0 (Shameful I know) therefore I had decided to stick with Firefox due to all the hype and the use of extensions.

So then recently when I downloaded Opera 9.5, I was surprised to find how fast it was and how good it looked at the same time. Now i'm torn between Opera and Firefox and have been alternating between the two...

Opera for general browsing seems to be the best choice for me and Firefox as a development browser. I can't find the tools (plugins) for Opera or IE that are as extensive as the firefox addons.

As a web designer, Firefox is the best because it renders webpages according to the W3C standards. I love the add-ons, there are so many useful ones.

This is where I'm at. I use Opera for general browsing because it's lightening quick and looks good, but Firefox when I have a specific task (SEO research etc.) because I've loaded it up with tons of add-ons.

If you took Opera's blistering speed and gorgeous rendering, Firefox's extensibility and added a pinch of Safari's design touches - well, then you'd... you'd have some kind of super-browser!!!! Moo-ha-ha-ha!

Flockity Flock Flock.

Although I do admit to using IE7 when I'm in a rush and need to look at one page. Flock takes a while to get going!

I had never realised Opera was that quick, I will use it more now I know!

I love opera's strict rendering engine much better for me. It helps me learn. However, Firefox is still my best friend while designing. Firefox has the coolest addons. The web developer toolbar and Firebug and Colorzilla and Aardvark help me all the time. Working with these addons and Notepad++ helps me save a lot of time and are really helpful.

I don't really like Flock all that much.
I use firefox and are reasonably happy, but would have used opera if they had similar webdesigners tools.

Why has no-one said Lynx?

I've tried Flock but it crashed multiple times so I went back to my beloved Firefox 3.

Firefox, mostly cos I'm used to it and it's a godsend for developing sites. Have to say I'm not so enamoured with FF3 - and would consider using Opera/Chrome for general browsing.

I personally find Firefox to be much faster and reliable - for example I do a lot of selling on eBay and the page renders so slowly in IE7 and bumps the CPU to 100%, whereas firefox does it in half the time and uses about 60%.

I also agree that web design would be so much easier if we just had one (decent) browser to think about... Firefox(3).

Are you talking about the web developer toolbar (add-on)? Or is there a version of Firefox for web developers which I don't know about?
