http://www.efficient-heat.net/form

How can I make this form more appealing. I want people to make enquires. I realise the whole site plays a part in this but is there anything in particular I can do to the form area.

I would earn some commission if the leads from the form turn into jobs.

Try something like this

<fieldset>
  <legend>Contact Details</legend>
  <ol>
  <li>
  <label for="name">Name :</label>
  <input  name="name" id="name" type="text" maxlength="50" style="background-color:#CCCCCC">
  </li>
  <li>
  <label for="email">Email Address :</label>
  <input  name="email" id="email" type="text" style="background-color:#CCCCCC">
  </li>
  </ol>
  </fieldset>
  <fieldset>
  <legend>Mobile / Telephone</legend>

  <ol>
  <li>
  <label for="telephone">Telephone :</label>
  <input  name="telephone" id="telephone" type="text" maxlength="50">

  </li>
  <li>
  <label for="mobile">Mobile :</label>
  <input  name="mobile" id="mobile" type="text" maxlength="50">
  </li>
  </ol>
  </fieldset>
  <fieldset>
  <legend>Message</legend>
  <ol>
  <li>
  <label for="message">Message :</label>
  <textarea  name="message" id="message" cols="30" rows="10" class="message"></textarea>
  </li>
  </ol>
  </fieldset>
  <fieldset class="submit"><legend></legend>
  <input type="submit" value="Submit" style="background-color:#CCCCCC">
  </fieldset>

  </form>

Then add this to your css

}
fieldset {
margin: 1.5em 0 0 0;
color:#3F6B42;
}
legend {
margin-left: 1em;
color:#923224;
font-weight: bold;
font-size:14px;
}
fieldset ol {
padding: 1em 1em 0 1em;
list-style:none;
color:#3F6B42;
}
fieldset li {
padding-bottom: 1em;
color:#3F6B42;
}
fieldset.submit {
float:none;
width:auto;
border-style:none;
padding-left: 12em;
background-color: transparent;
}
label{
display:block;
color:#3F6B42;
font-weight: bold;
}
fieldset fieldset{
margin: 1.5em 0 0 0;
padding: 30px;
color:#3F6B42;
border:hidden;
}
fieldset fieldset legend{
top: 0;
}
fieldset fieldset ol{
position:relative;
top: -1.5em;
margin: 0 0 0 11em;
padding: 0;
}
fieldset fieldset label{
float:none;
width:auto;
margin-right:auto;
}

Play around with the colours and settings

From a copywriting point of view (this is the forum section for it!) there are several things you can do to increase response rates, including:
  • Put strong time-limited offer - sign-up by blah and get [something good]
  • Provide a reward for signing-up - a free brochure, article, consultation...
  • Put in a highly visible privacy statement on the form page reassuring people you won't spam them
  • Be more specific with the benefits - how much will I save, why should I care again?
  • Place a couple of testimonials on the form page
  • Place a 'story' of how a customer really benefited
  • Use more dynamic lead-in text that flows smoothly but with tempo into the form

But you really can't ignore the role of the rest of the site - it's like writing a killer final chapter without the rest of the book. It's important to remember the entire rest of a site is only there to get visitors to this response.

Wow these posts are going to be very useflul. Shame there isnīt an emoticon with pound signs for eyes.

I think the service section of the site meets the requirement for informative content. Maybe the Strong/bold text is a bit much.

I would be interested in how I could improve the copy of the home page. Any suggestions?

Talk less about your company and more about what you can do for your customer. For example, your low prices and fast service, your friendly staff who'll take care of someone's home, etc etc. Also include a call to action - encourage people to get in touch to talk about what they need.

I've only taken a quick '2 minutes left of my lunch break' look, but I would say you need to pull out the main methods of contact, ranked in order of how you would prefer them to contact you. e.g. Phone, mobile, email.

If you are only getting commission on emailed details, then (this is a bit cynical), you may want to promote the email form first!

I would suggest that you strip the 'persuasive' content out and make your promotions elsewhere on the site. When people have clicked through to 'Contact us', they have already made the decision to contact you. What you want is to drive more people TO the page in the first place - in which case you can run a promotion as suggested by Wizely.

Thanks for the replies . I've given a bit more attention to the front page. Made it more about how the customer will benefit.

I also made some changes to the form. Reminded them about energy and fuel savings and said we wont spam etc .

There was an offer to get "FREE TRVS on every heating installation" on the homepage but I moved it because it was spoiling the layout. It now resides tucked away in the RSS feed where its not getting a fair hearing. Ill try and see if it works in the form area somewhere. I think this might work as a final push.

However I reckon Ill have to take a hit on this site.The better it gets the more likely people are going to ring the guy rather than fill out a form. Even if I say fill in the form rather than ring.

For the other site i'm designing for him I've altered the fee payments so that I get a one off fee. Ill also be charging for SEO efforts :yahoo:
