ooh this is fun...

i'm sticking with *animation station* as the base (no pun on base intended) of the concept. there's something i like about it, but i'd be the first to say it's not ready as is.

DIZI DESIGNS
YOUR ANIMATION STATION

DIZI DESIGNS
THE WEBS WEB DESIGN AND MULTIMEDIA STATION

DIZI DESIGNS
AN ANIMATION STATION

DIZI DESIGNS
MORE THAN JUST A WEB DESIGN COMPANY

DIZI DESIGNS
THE WEBS NUMBER ONE ANIMATION STATION

DIZI DESIGNS
AT THE ANIMATION STATION MULTIMEDIA IS DIZIS OCCUPATION

DIZI DESIGNS
MULTIMEDIA IS THE OCCUPATION AT THE ANIMATION STATION

DIZI DESIGNS
THE ANIMATION STAION WHERE MULTIMEDIA IS THE OCCUPATION

DIZI DESIGNS
OCCUPATION ANIMATION

DIZI DESIGNS
ANIMATION BEING THE OCCUPATION AT THIS STATION

NOPE NOT QUITE THERE YET LOL

With absolutely no disrespect to Dizi, I think it is very hard to find a USP, no matter which business you are in.
In fact does any business really have a USP?
For example, the last thing I noticed was in the print industry where the 'green/ecological' ideology was used as a USP.
Now, a lot of print companies use this to sell their products and so it is no longer a USP.

By the way, I'm really enjoying this thread and I've learnt a lot! :)

Yes, but this is Dizi's personal 'profile' page and, being an individual - especially a creative one, she is unique and working with Dizi Design would hopefully be different to working with any other designer. Maybe we can't exactly have USP... maybe a NUSP (Nearly Unique Selling Point!) is better?! But we might be able to create a unique impression, a feeling, a reaction?

One idea I've been toying with would see me creating an online presence for a company called "The Iced Sprout". What that company does isn't entirely unqiue - but the service they provide does produce startlingly different results to those of their competitors.

Think of, say Airlines. They all have aeroplanes wot we does get on and fly places innit? But is Virgin the same as BA? Well 99% they are - but they're percieved very differently because beardy Branson has charisma which he's injected into Virgin (ooer).

A NUSP doesn't have to be about the physical service - more likely it'll be about the 'experience' or 'philosophy' of a business.

Probably makes no sense!

I just hope Dizi doesn't mind me hijacking this thread - hopefully it'll help stimulate your creative noggins and deliver her a better logo if I keep treating it like a Copy Corner Article... hey she's a mod and just delete my entries or, like normal, just close a thread with mine as the last one!!!! ;)

Now get on with the slogans - I'm off before Dizi closes this thread!

Ah yes that half real, half imagined concept the USP.

Almost impossible to define, constantly shifting, etheral.

A bit like fashion where as soon as it's in it's out. If anything out is in and in is out.

There's a long list of artists, musicians, writers and thinkers who were rejected in their day, but later reviewed and became famous.

Michel Houellbecq came up the concept of people fitting into three distinct groups in 'Atomised' , one of these being the 'precurssors' - prepared to take a minimal idelogical risk only if the concept was already established. The print companies you mention using 'green/ecological' ideology are doing exactly this.

But for most people this is safe, using green/ecological USP's as a selling point reflects back to the user/buyer there own stance, all be it one they have absorbed due to it being acceptable rather than unique.

Dizi correct me if wrong, but these are adjectives (is that the right word Wize long time since I did English studies) and descriptives I think the logo needs to address;

- Edgy
- Feminine
- Original
- Artistic
- Professional
- A bit out there but not too far out there, see above we don't want to scare the precurssors off
- Experimental
- Solid
- Reliable
- One of the creme
- Creative
- Movement
- Pink
- Cartoon

OK... this is really my last meddling!

A strapline and logo are only the tip of the branding iceberg. To work it must capture the organisation's or individual's core concept and this must be carried-through everywhere else... the copy, the design, the imagery and even how the business operates...

Without all that you have a nice line but not a powerful line.

Might be worth reading an article on say Word Brushes, Efective Headlines, or Rhythm or even better on Vivid Prose... if only there were such an easily accessible resource close at hand!!!! (anybody would think copy is important everywhere!!!)

And yes headcoat they are (for the most part) adverbs - or plain old 'describey words'!

For a random piece of inspiration - how about:

I don't know if you have the same laws as we do in Norway, but here you need to prove those words before you are acctually allowed to use them. A proof might be a poll online, a test by a newspaper of best pizzas in town, and such. I think this rule is pretty global, because the danish beer company, Carsberg, changed their slogan from "the best beer in the world" to "probably the best beer in the world"! :D

good point, i wasn't being too literal in my interpration on number one - i read and wrote in an abstract or broad sense.

but many would read it for real as in number one emans best, me i never believe advertising anyway, which begs the question why is someone (being me) who turns the tv over when the adverts come on, ignores advertising in magazines working in web design!!!

you know that's actually very good, nothing over clever, no attempt to brand where not suitable, but it really gets the job done.

collection is a good word in the context - it gives importance to the actual work rather than any branding, works also a good one and by inserting 'name' your countering the DIZI negatives we've discussed.

it also hints at an individual rather than an entity or company.

Currently gets my vote. Excellent.

Food for thought:

DIZI DESIGNS
design matters

works on 2 levels - design is important and the site is about matters in design

DIZI DESIGNS
good design is within your reach

gives the visitor something

DIZI DESIGNS
always inspired, never dull

puts a positive spin on the 'Diziness'

DIZI DESIGNS
inspiring design by Helen

makes it personal

DIZI DESIGNS
Dizi's little space on the web

well how can Dizi not like that (read her signature!)

DIZI DESIGNS
Nuts about new media

or

DIZI DESIGNS
Bonkers for new media

Maybe Dizi could put her favourites into a sort-list for a poll if she can trust us? Consider it market research!
