I came across this handy firefox extension to allow you to save files remotely using Google FTP.

If you want some spare storage space or want an alternative way of sharing files other than your conventional web server, you can actually use your Gmail account for this purpose (not just for email).

I've been using this for a few months to transfer files between my laptop and desktop if I'm working between them - it's fantastic!

Also just started using it with a friend as a 'drop folder' between us - just used a Gmail invite to make a new account and it's perfect!

A very useful tip:

How can I archive gspace mails (highly recommended)?
1. Login to the actual gmail web interface.

2. Click on "Create Filter" link at the top

3. Give your email address in the "From" and "To" fields. Also, give "d$" in the subject field (as the subject contains d$ at the end).

4. Click "Next step" button. Here mark the checkbox which says "Skip the inbox(archive it)". You can also give a label at the "Apply the label" dropdown (recommended). This would be useful when you want to search for a particular file at a later point.

5. Click "Add Filter" and you are done. Now the uploaded files(emails) are not shown in the inbox.

Archiving also helps in not showing the dialog box when programs like "Gmail Notifier" is used.

Means you'll not get 'false' new email shouts from Gmail Notifier and your inbox isn't clogged up. :)

This is great! I think I could definitely find this useful when moving about between offices in my freelance fashion.
