Part 0
The Importance of Copy

Quote

Marketing attracts, sharp design entices but it's high quality content that engages and retains…

I'll start off by being controversial!
Copy is the most important aspect of design.
I'll give you a moment to mutter obscenities before justifying this through the medium of metaphor…

There was this fellow called Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni who could paint ceilings like no other… you may have heard of him? Imagine he was born 400 years later and was a top web designer. Now imagine how beautiful 'www.sistine.com' would be. Now imagine this as the text that greets you:

'My names Mike n' I duz corprut dezine and ill make ur site betterer'

OK, a little over the top but it isn't amazing graphics alone that sell – even for your portfolio pages.

I hope this series, with your help, will help you impress clients, improve your own sites and add another string to your bow.

Enjoy Part 1 'Integrating copy and design'…

Oooh I can't wait for this one, it's something I've been saying for years.

Copy is my bane. I'm a person strongly inclined to the visual. Words has never come easy to me. It's all too tempting to me (and I guess this is the case for many other who also do visual work) to focus and digg straight into the visual. And the content of a website is the core - conveying the message properly is so important, but we I fall into the trap of obsessing about the visuals.
With my next project I plan to properly face this. I will take care of the text before I begin with the visual.
