I found some interesting stats on browser usage. Firefox now holds a 37% market share compared to 7.2% in 2003. They have done a terrific job promoting online. here are the full stats:

That is the stats for w3cschools though. Not an average of the web's stats. I'd only wish non-IE browsers had a marketshare like that globally.... *dreams*

I have to agree with Thomas that this is indicative of the global market, still a refreshing statistic to see!

My portfolio website currently enjoys 60% FF and only 23% IE.

it is refreshing to think that ff could take over , but not as long as IE comes packaged with windows. Too many folks willing to use whats given instead of looking for better alternatives.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the majority of web developers use FF... :)

thanks for that. as you say more accurate.

problem for developers, ironically it's mostly other developers looking at your site so the stats will be skewed towards ffox.

A big factor for this is Firebug being a lot more informative than IE Developer Toolbar I should think.

Firefox is really much better than IE. According to my expectation, it will take over IE almost 90% in the near future.

Someone said earlier about ie staying top as long as people use what they're given instead of looking for better alternatives, but the average end-user sees nothin wrong with their ie6 or ie7, and therefore doesn't see a problem, and therefore no need to look elsewhere.

Chrome might be a surprise in a few years (mind you how many people STILL use IE6?!)

Windows/Microsoft has too much of a monopoly on the Home PC Market for FF to ever realistically challenge IE for market dominance in the next 5 years.

I disagree with that comment. Maybe for an OS but not a simple browser.

IMO the problem is people put misguided trust in IE and hate change. For the love of god they should push an update on IE. What's it going to be like with html5?
