Lately i've been pretty quiet on here due to a heavy work load.

Last night i had a dream that my entire body and life functioned as a WordPress install, no lie!

I saw myself from the inside looking out through my eyes but with a kind of HUD of what was happening at that time within my core. Different aspects of my day where called by different template files and brushing my hair involved changing a few things in the stylesheet.

I think it was at this point that i realised maybe I've been working to hard :p

Just wondered if any one on here suffered weirdness due to over working?

I wish. I'd happily trade a bit of psychosis for a bit of work at the moment, things have gone unaccountably quiet.

Maybe you can spend your downtime working on a personal project? Some kind of quirky venture that you'd like to give a whirl?

That's what I do when I have time that isn't consumed by Freelancing or DayJob... work on those weird personal projects that you'd like to see if they take off. It keeps your skills honed and gives you another portfolio piece.

I do have a couple of projects on the go, plus my site's realign (not a full redesign). What I'm more worried about is it's the 9th already and I've not had a single enquiry yet this month. Bit worrying without a day job to fall back on; it means I'm living on holiday/sickness reserves. All the potential clients I quoted toward the end of last month have been abducted by aliens. H'mmm - maybe they all went to Mike instead? :p

Mike, tell your little green men to bring them back. Client-poaching by flying saucer simply isn't acceptable behaviour.

Also, the perils of eating Crunchie nut cornflakes at 4.20 in the afternoon is that half of a back tooth falls off..

true story. Just happened.

Should I sue kelloggs or my dentist who put the filling in that tooth?!

Bizzare guys, I had the same thing happen whilst devouring a large bag of Doritos on Monday. Could this be some form of trending here on the forum?

Yes I dream of code all the time - I actually dream of making changes then previewing and in my dream it shows me what the change looks like. That worries me a bit. Mind you I tend to code late into the night.

I'd say from current personal experience the main worry is posture and particularly in my case, headaches. I have a thudding headache at the moment that I've had for about 3 weeks. Think I've done something to my neck. All that staring at the screen and physically seizing up. It hasn't affected the speed or quality of the work, it just hurts.

Code-psychosis is one thing and you just need to do something "real" to counteract it. Personally I shoot for playing guitar or bass, or working on the car etc. - something more manually orientated.

Get a decent ergonomic chair, keyboard and mouse. It'll work wonders for you.
I had a time when even sitting at the computer for a few minuets ended with me getting terrible muscle cramps and pain in my shoulders, head and neck. I got myself some good glasses to use at the computer as well as a new chair and it's amazing the difference it made.

As for off-setting the brain work with manual work. Absolutely! I find that guitar/bass, Skateboarding, Swimming and Cycling all balance things well it's just in Winter it's not as easy to do the outdoor type past times. Work hard, play hard!

I sometimes dream of breasts, breasts and more breasts, but I can't say code has ever crept into the equation.

Yet.

Are those kneeling ones any good? If not,any recommendations?

You could argue - once you've been to the chiropractor/osteopath 5 times, that's the price of a decent chair, I suppose.

They must be making a killing since the IT industry took off years ago.

Not sure about the kneeling ones as i've never tried one. Would be a pain to fit under my desk though :p

My girlfriend bought my chair for me so i'm not sure what it is. It's not a specialist one it's just much more comfortable with a lot of lumber support. Although i do have to make a concious effort not to hunch over my desk.

I really want an Aeron, but I can't justify spending that sort of wad on a chair.

I found sticking a few books under my monitor makes me 'have' to sit up straight so I can see ... works for me.
