To me it seems it bit too polished and glossy for the er... subject matter. If I were a buyer of such products I think would be put off, thinking there would be a big mark-up in your products - opting instead for a 'dodgier' and cheaper looking provider.

Goes against everything we know as designers, but I suppose you've got to think of your target market. I would at least try to make it look a bit more wacky :)

Hi

I agree that it looks a bit more modern then most hippies could handle, but we have done quite a lot of market research and have found that most of their potential clients would like to be treated like everybody else in the 21st century.

But I must agree that it is quite different than the average style used when targeting this audience, and caused quite a bit of concern during earlier design chats.

Also, the actual pages will suit the topics fans a bit more...lol

I have added a few drafts for the pages, fonts have to be changed still, and lots more, this is just where I stopped to chat here.

Finished the layout, now having my spelling checked.
Then placing the corrected text in the right spot. (and horizontally align the header on the cover)

Here is the final layout.

I'd like to see a burlap sack background behind the images. That would communicate the "earthiness" that your clientelle is expecting while still allowing for a clean layout. Also the pictures of the product should be dropped on the background at varying angles to look like someone just tossed the snapshots down on a sack.

Nice idea, but that would be a 100% design change and backwards from the clean techy look required.

And also the days that hippies roamed the earth are over, I am not targeting the potato sack group, more the (larger) group that bought an ipad and games console.

Ditch the gmail address and use something@seedism.com. That's a very amateur element that jars with the pro feel of the rest of the design.

*** Drool ***

That aside - if you are indeed going for a clean cut modern feel, I think it's excellent and shows the product off very well.

Only thing - are the drop shadows a bit heavy in places?

don't like all caps for a lot of copy, nor do most readers

where does blue fit into the product or the feeling that you're trying to portray? green yes (relaxed, eco, plants, etc) but that blue sticks out like a sore thumb - can you explain why you picked it because to me it does not fit at all

The blue is mainly there due to the image used on the inside of the cover, which has an blue background and was the only image with a prime color in the background that could be used in the layout.

I did try using other colors but this combi gave me the most satisfaction.

I have got a few changes to make, I agree with there being too much drop shadow and I also do not like the fonts used in the bottom.

I think it looks great mate. The style is certainly fit for the market imo because it reminds me of the hydroponic ads you seen in hightimes/grow mags, possibly the seed ads too. Maybe the blue could be changed, or the copy on top of the blue?

Would like to see how it comes out in print.

Goodluck,
~evu.

It's a bold approach not to incorporate hypnotic backgrounds on your designs, but I like it!

To get back to this topic.

I was as stubborn as usual, thinking I was right and you were wrong.

LOL

I ordered myself a printproof and there was obviously too much drop-shadow on the bottom, thanks gibson, shame I did not listen to you.

Evu, you were 50% right with the blue, does not work the way it is now, especially with the text being dark-grey and nearly invisible on my proof.

Well, just wanted to let you know your advice was great, stupid of me not to listen and react.

Will post some pics later with my proof and the redesigned version.

cheers

Lol that's alright mate, I'm used to it, nobody ever listens to me haha......

Well post it back up once you've made the changes.

I did think on the whole it was excellent though. Another idea I think you ought to do is include a chocolate bar or free pizza token with it. They're gonna be needing it!
