OK, so I've seen the seo certifed company/individual badge on a lot of seo websites lately - http://seocertificat...allbusiness.php

Straight to the point, what are your opinions on this?

For me, purely from a business point of view:

  • Builds trust
  • Customers have something to go off, as SEO is stupidly grey
  • Is something solid you can put on your CV
Any thing else - positive or negative?

Without seeing the training materials I couldn't say, but I'm deeply suspicious of anything with "SEO" attached to it.

Code of ethics isn't particularly comprehensive - I notice no prohibition of black-hat techniques. Very little social proof across the whole site. I personally would avoid.

It sounds very interesting there no much of certifications about SEO out there.

However, I got to ask who is providing this certification and does it really add a value to SEO analyst. is this website provide a standard certification from a well known respected organization ?

It's like 'web designers guilds', pure scam for an 'in' crowd ... pay enough and they let anyone in. Give me $200 and I'll certify you president of all things SEO and holy ;)

The best certification is your clients; are they first page on Google with the right search terms? If the answer is yes then you can have a sticker :D

It's no so much the actual certification tbh. As it's an un moderated exam you take online, I can't imagine the material is anything new.

My main foicus was the initial trust it could build when a visitor lands on your site and sees a certified logo. Only raised it as I've noticed this logo on a lot of sites lately.

If you want to build trust and show your potential new clients that you have what they want, why not look at some digital marketing qualifications. These might not be full on SEO qualifications but will give you a much wider knowledge base that will enable you to help you clients in a holistic way. I am sure the Chartered Institute of Marketing do industry recognised digital qualifications qualifications. They aren't cheap but probably worth more in the long run.

Yes, a qualification/badge help improve trust but (as someone with experience in online course marketing) I wouldn't touch that site/course with a bargepole. All that 'certification' would give you is the visual impact of it on your site and you could knock up your own badge in Photoshop to do exactly that for free.

If I was you, I'd try and get a Google cert:
http://www.seomoz.or...iser-consultant

Or maybe use a more respected company's cert:
http://inboundmarket...tification-exam

I'm not sure a certification in SEO would be of much practical use. The rules of the game change so often it would be very difficult to msintain relevance. I hold numerous Microsft / Cisco certifications and they work as they remain current for a minimum of 3 years. SEO seems seems to change every month to combat the latest Spamming technique
