Hey guys,

Just looking for some advice really...

I am interested in possibly selling my website http://www.retrofootballtshirts.co.uk - but have no idea what it could be worth?!

A bit about the site - launched in early 2007, RetroFootballTShirts.co.uk sell unofficial high-quality retro football t-shirts, in association with Spreadshirt, from top brands like American Apparel, Fruit Of The Loom and Hanes to name but a few. The site offers, at present, 4,803 articles of clothing (mostly t-shirts, but also including hoodies, babygrows, baby bibs, children’s apparel, women’s apparel) of hundreds of players from all of the major British teams and nations, as well as articles of clothing offering support to the national teams. All of the t-shirts are exclusive to the site and only available at RetroFootballTShirts.co.uk. They are not endorsed by any of the Football Clubs or the players themselves.

I have been running this website on my own as a part-time "hobby” whilst holding down a full-time job and can no longer afford the time to give the site the work and effort it deserves.

The home page has received 425,604 hits in total and receives an average of 5,685 unique hits per month and an average of 7,566 page loads per month.

During the last World Cup, the home page was getting around 13,000 unique views per month and during the forthcoming European Championships this year, will be getting a similar amount of hits I would imagine.

The total yearly unique visitors to the home page are…

2011 = 55,493
2010 = 83,620
2009 = 70,939
2008 = 68,967
2007 = 36,951

This year, with the upcoming European Championships, I’d expect a similar number of hits to 2010 when the World Cup took place.

I have designed all of the t-shirts and they are printed, packaged and sent through a German-based company called ‘Spreadshirt’ – www.spreadshirt.co.uk

As such, my site uses a Spreadshirt template created by myself. Therefore, the ‘store’ section of the site has its own URL - http://retrofootball...readshirt.co.uk

This URL has so far had over a million hits since 2007 (1,023,225 hits).

If you combine both URLs, the site has had approx 1.3 million unique hits since 2007.

The site also has around 300 'affiliates' on 'clix galore' and these affiliates earn £1 for every t-shirt sold as a result of coming via their website.

I earn around £3/4 per order....the site has had moderate sales, (but nothing you could 'live off' although that was never really the intention, as mentioned it is more of a 'hobby' because I love football and it was so much better 'back in the day' and I wanted people to remember the heroes of years gone by before all of the money 'spoilt' the game!).

Due to my heavy work commitments, I have not been marketing this at all for the past two years…. However, with a lot more marketing the site can make a lot more money. The addition of new teams and new apparel would also, of course, generate more income.

I have registered the business as a limited company, RetroFootballTShirts.co.uk, with myself as a sole Director.

Any help that anyone could give on how much this could possibly be worth would be much appreciated!

James

You've given detailed figures for how many visitors the site has and how much you make per sale, but you're glossing over the very important missing figure: how many sales the site generates - that would give us the % of visitors who convert and thus the true measure of worth of an ecommerce site.

From that I can only draw the conclusion that it is in fact next to worthless; that it would take time and effort equivalent to setting up a whole new site to get it on its feet.

a mighty amount of affiliates... the retro website needs a complete redesign i would suggest the domain is as valuable as the website. as an ordinary punter looking to purchase I'd walk away. can't find contact details - found it eventually in legal information...

anybody who is semi proficient at web use would/should look in the footer...ala the contact link is in the footer :)

Site is pretty ugly and would need a huge overhaul. It would obviously increase in value should you get the re-design done etc. And ofcourse the true measure of worth is in the amount of sales it generates.

Get it on flippa.

People here would just make their own version of it and probably end up with a better looking/functioning website.

Flippa - full of noobs who overvalue things.

It is a hard one to calculate. You mention that you don't make enough to live off, which is understandable, if you aren't full time on it, you aren't likely to really make the big bucks.

I don't think there is a definite figure on your site. You have a site with a good domain name, a PR of 3, but not much else. Your products aren't something I would purchase, and to be honest, when I went to your domain, I expected to see retro KITS, not random t-shirts you had made yourself.

I would say the domain, with a PR of 3 is probably worth between £500 and £1000 to the right person. But if it was me buying it, I would want to take the whole thing apart, start again, because I don't think the business model is quite there at the moment.

Good luck with it, whatever you do though.

Hi,

i'd recommend to change a bit your current design. As to me so the left column looks very aggressive. I mean its blue background.
