Hi

I have a lot of web 'sites' in folders on my desktop which I use to test things out like forms, lightboxes etc. None of them are live. I wanted to tidy up the desktop so created a new folder with the idea of moving all the dummy sites folders into it.

I moved one folder but when I moved the second, I got the message:
"The root folder you have chosen is the same as the folder for site 'ContactTest'. This may cause some operations, such as synchronization, to work incorrectly. Proceed anyway?".
As the folder I was transferring wasn't terribly important, I thought I would see what happened so ok'd it. When I tried the site, it wouldn't work so I decided to move it back out to the desktop.

When I did this I was received this message which I ok'd:
"The cache will now be recreated because the name, root folder, HTTP address of cloaking settings of the site have been changed."
The result is that all my desktop links, folders etc are now in the dummy website folder as files and sub folders?! If I delete the links, they are deleted from the desktop.

I have no idea how to put everything back to the way it was. Can anyone help me please?

Hi

It seems that I have had a lot of people viewing my question, but no responses as yet. I've just realised I forgot to say that I use Dreamweaver CS5.

Is more information needed, something I've not included that would enable someone to help me?

Unfortunately this kind of thing happens a lot when using Dreamweaver, why not code the site using notepad ++ and just use your browser for viewing the test pages?

I'm confused, you say that it was just full of test data that you were messing around with? So why does it say Help needed urgently? Just start from scratch...

I don't use Dreamweaver but try checking in the site configuration and change the address that it looks in for the root of the site?

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm really new to website design, so using DW seemed the easiest option as there are loads of books, tutorials, forums etc.

The urgent bit was because I had just finished a complete site (after all the testing) and was due to upload it for the customer to look at yesterday. The completed site folder was on my desktop so has ended up as a subfolder of the folder I was trying to move, along with everything else on my desktop. I couldn't upload it because the site no longer exists as such.

I can't start from scratch because everything has become a sub folder of the folder I tried to move! I somehow need to undo what I've done, but I don't know how because I actually don't understand what has happened.

Any ideas as to how I could progress would be very much appreciated.

You need to either edit the project properties in Dreamweaver to correct the folder paths or use a separate FTP client to upload it (I recommend FileZilla).

Thanks for your post, and the recommendation re FileZilla.

Where do I edit the project properties? If I look at the Site > Manage area (or Settings) the path for all the folders I have point to the folder I tried to move. If I alter the path, it just changes the 'top level' folder name, ie the one I tried to move.

The Address for each page is showing correctly, for example: file:///C/Users/myName/desktop/ContactFormTest/contact.html

Would it reset everything back to the way it was if I uninstall DW and reinstall it, and what impact would that have on my completed project and those I have been using for testing?
