Decided to redesign my site. I'm going with a little darker approach and more "Artsey" and less templatey lol. The three images at the top need work. I only have about 3 hours in it so far. Im not sure about the fixed header yet. I wanted some feedback on that. What do you think so far? My current design is jibdesigns.com and the link to the new version is: http://jibclients.co..._Jib/index.html

Thanks!

While it's a slight improvement over the original in some ways, it's worse in others and it still looks quite business templatey to me :(

First and foremost that text shadow is just horrible! 10px? That's a bit excessive don't you think? Why not try something a little more up to date like;

text-shadow: 0 1px -1px white;

Secondly I'm not really feeling that "Old Paper" style background texture it looks tacky and messy.

I echo the thoughts. Some nice elements which are totally let down by some less than pleasant aspects.

Take out the drop shadow and have a nice, 1px white drop shadow.

The blue header and beige background doesn't work. Would be interesting to see that blue header as the background for the whole of the website.

The little buttons for the slider, the green doesn't work.

No footer so content goes right to the bottom of the browser

Roll over images take a while to load, look at sprites.

Hello

Hope that helps:
  • Fixed header is ok, as long as it's not big, which doesn't apply to your current header
  • I don't like the shadowplay, too big radius (fonts and slider)
  • Menu is clean but it's boring, you could make them sort of big press in div buttons (inner shadow etc)
  • I don't like the texture transition, but the textures itself are beatiful, altho i think you could pull it better
  • Content: Give it some white space, add icons for better navigation, maybe try giving some white bg blocks for text but im not sure about result (well depends how you mix it, or you could just simple safety give the content solid/gradient color)
  • Thumbnails could use some Jquery fade in to make them more beatiful

Btw. whats the font for you main header (We're building better web)?

I probally should have put more info on here bofore I posted it...

1) This is still a major WIP hence why there is no footer yet, it will be added later on in the design stage.
2) Copy is not even close to done. Its basically some filler. I also throw in real stuff during the design process so I have some type of content to design around.
3) JQuery elements have not been added. So anytime there is a replacement image they will be done using jQuery not css for a nice fade effect. As well as the menu will be using the sliding menu effect.
4) Personally I like the textures but the transition is bad. It will need some work, the fade isnt working right now.
5) I agree the shadows were a test to see what people thought but I can see they didn't turn out well so they are gone for a more conventional approach.

The font for the top is Cabin.

Thanks!
