Image Menu CSS

I am currently looking to develop an image based menu for a home page, yet I am having a couple of issues with certain aspects due to compatability with browsers and the code.

Above is the link for the page i'm working on, the questions I have are in regards to the central image news bar, and being able to keep the right most image at full width when you move your cursor away from the images.

If anyone has any suggestions or alternate ways to create this effect it would be much appreciated.
