My mum got one for xmas barely put it down since. She has the 3 the one with keyboard not the touch screen. We were on the train and there was 4 people around all with kindles lol. If you like your books, so much easier than carrying a couple of books on your bag.

I have the Kindle 3 the one with the keyboard as well. It's amazing. Had it for more than 6 moths. Not a single problem. What really kills it is the fact that you only have to charge once a month.

If you do get it. Download Calibre. It's a free book-management program. It's really useful. Like it coverts all file types into mobi.

Definitely. Very handy if you do a lot of travel. No bulky books to lug about.

I got one of the most basic Kindles from work (I suppose they figure books can substitute for tuition reimbursement...) and it's pretty cool. I love the non-backlit screen; it's much better than a backlit one when it comes to eye strain.

I still enjoy the smell and tactile feel of a physical book, but it would be a huge pain in the ass lugging multiple books around if you were traveling. I purchased two things so far (and haven't had much time to get started on them) but it's super easy dealing with the Kindle store.

P.S. If you are a designer of anything you need to read: http://www.amazon.co...n/dp/0385267746

I cannot understand wanting to read a book on an iPad. The backlight would hurt my eyes so much.

Yeh I agree, especially if your looking at it for ages.

Ive seen the standard Kindle and the screen is great to read on. I'm not sure how the Kindle Fire will differ from the iPad in terms of readability since its in colour.

for some reason, only known to Amazon, the Kindle Touch is not available in the UK. I see though it is in India!?

I've seen rumours that they are going to bring out a colour e-ink model later this year.

interesting book on the Kindle daily deal today (http://amzn.to/zAdxui)

Worm: The Story of the First Digital World War [Kindle Edition]

Worm is the gripping story of the 'Conficker' computer virus- which, since its introduction in November 2008, has infected millions of computers around the world - and the cyber security elites who have joined forces in a high-tech game of cops and robbers to find its creators and defeat them.

This dramatic cybercrime story travels from the Ukraine to the United States (and all parts in between) to explore the next frontier in terrorism. It is the story of a dazzling battle of wits over the future of the Internet. In Worm, Mark Bowden delivers an unputdownable account of the ongoing and largely unreported war taking place literally beneath our fingertips.

Kindles are great, also got one for Christmas and love it! Really good if you are a public transport goer! Train journey savers! :D Mine doesn't have the keyboard though, and i think id find it very handy if it did, however, its still very user friendly! :D
