Bet ya never been asked this one before ;)

When I set up a site, I forgot to remove the template pages and set them to no index, now they have been indexed and totally look bad/spammish.

I have just submitted a site map tonight in the hope google will dump the old pages (that are now no index and no follow).

Is there anything more I can do?

Thanks people :)

If you've got the site setup in Google Webmaster Tools, there's an option under Crawler Access for removing pages from the index.

It doesn't just look bad, it will also have a negative on the autghority of your site.

I hear this a lot but I thought I would share.

Nofollow has no effect on what gets index'd and noindex while its ok to use its not the best method, infact many ignore it.

Use robots.txt to quickly remove pages, webmaster tools takes awhile and even has a disclaimer it doesnt promise anything.

Anytime your site is 'SKIMED' it doesnt read your site map, and doesnt read all pages.. HOWEVER it does read robots.txt everytime.

So add the url to the robots.txt and thats it :p
