Hey,
I am in the process of turning my website into a Wordpress theme and i want to have different things on different pages. For example, i want to have a large tag line in a large font on the home page, but i only want it to appear there. How would i do this? Is using a conditional tag the answer or should i look at custom post types?
I also want to retain the blog functionality, but only on the blog page. How do i achieve this?
I should add that i am not a complete beginner to html/css, i also have basic javascript and php under my belt too. I am just new to Wordpress themeing.
Many thanks,
Luke

Bookmark this page, it'll soon be your best friend.
Edit: create two Pages, one for your homepage, one for your blog. Don't bother adding any content to your blog page, it's just a placeholder that'll be replaced by your blog posts.
Set your homepage and blog page in Settings > General. You can template your blog with home.php and your homepage with front_page.php.

Nice one Chris. I didn't realise they'd updated this page lately.
OP... get used to conditional tagsas well, they'll save your life numerous times!
