Hi, I have made a new website for a potential business I'm starting. I know it will not be up to the standards you expect on this forum, but I was hoping you could give it a quick look and give some feedback, baring in mind it is an amateur site.
I am in the process of changing the default links, so please don't comment on these.
Thanks in advance,
Ryan.
The website is ryanpromotions.co.uk

Hi,

Ok, some notes i will say are:

1.Invest in a proper host. The free host domain name looks cheap and will put potential customers off your business.

2. I would ditch the counter, and install something like google analytics, its easy enough to do.

3. I'm not a fan of yellow on black, with blue. It reminds me of web design back in the pre-historic days.

4. I would have the email addy at the top, in line with the logo (and i would also have the domain name email, if you decided on getting off the free host, and going with a paid host).

5. I would have relevant images to your business, that blend with the site design.

6. I would suggest using wordpress. You can find some great free themes on wordpress.org. and then you could have useful side widgets like a testimonial widget or something of the sort. Again, wordpress does have bit of a learning curve, but it can used for a static site quite easily and you can get plugins that do all manner of things.

6 is just a personal time saving preference of mine, but all the other points are pretty much text book I believe.

Do you plan on having some kind of SEO?

Good luck :)

Thanks for the reply, I am in the middle of getting a proper host, I know the current one is not suitable. Yeah I wasn't sure about the counter either, I think I will try google analytics or other invisible counters. I wasn't sure about the colour scheme, I like the blue and black, but I don't like the yellow I don't think, so this will be getting changed. And, yeah ok I'll change the position of the email link and I'll try to find some more suitable images.
And finally, I'm not sure about SEO yet, I think I'll give it a few weeks without it, then if my site isn't attracting enough traffic, I will probably go for some kind of SEO.
Thanks very much for the advice, it is appreciated.

The yellow black and blue clash a little.

My Main suggestion is to study colour theory, those colours are seriously pretty horrid and way too harsh.

Also please put all of your CSS into a .css file and call it into your site from the header, rather than inserting all of the CSS directly into the HTML as it looks very messy.

I'd say that until you've got a good grip on the basics of CSS and design, I'd steer clear of designing your site yourself. Either look into using a WordPress template (as jamesosix said) or hire someone else to do it.

At the moment the website looks pretty bad, in my opinion. Colours, images, all looks like a bad 90s free-to-host site.

Like all of the above it's a little dark and grungy, blue on black hurts the wee old eye.
I always feel for a business you need a smart clean logo.

I advise a re-design.

Can I just ask, if the background was white, then the other colours were mainly blue and red, would this be better?
