Hi everyone, just a quick question, I am in the middle of sorting out my website domain name.
I was wondering what you all think is better to have, a subdomain, e.g ending in .netai.net, or a domain ending in things like .tk, .co.cc or other cheaper domains?
Comments appreciated.

i would get a paid domain, such as a .com or a .co.uk etc...

it looks much more professional, and having a co.cc may deter users from the site.

Thats just my own opinion.

Agreed, top level domains (.com, .net, .co.uk ect) are peanuts to buy and look a lot more professional.

Yeah I agree top level domains are the best option, but I was wondering what is better for me seeing as I am only just starting out? Or do you think I should go for a top level domain straight away?

If you're starting out, try out domains of your country, which are much cheaper ( co.uk .de .fr .pl etc.)

Unless you're using it as part of a name or brand (eg: http://del.icio.us or http://designm.ag) then I'd avoid the lesser known extensions. As everyone above says, it comes across unprofessional and makes you look a bit cheap.

Ok thanks everyone, I'll see if I can get a .co.uk domain without paying out too much.
Thanks again

In response to the initial question, there's nothing wrong with a sub domain if what you intend to house there is an add on to your main service. To me it beats going and buying a new (un-established) domain which has a different extension to your main site.

Defo paid domain, espesh with how cheap they are.

Also means you wont have to change it down the line, and you can also get some decent mail boxes that look pr0
