Here is the site:Link
Please provide honest feedback on this, thanks!

My personal thoughts of it are:
  • To much red
  • To much empty space
  • And no contract details
  • And the navigation bar needs re-doing nicely

Please provide honest feedback and i will give you all +1 rep!
I will not be offended by negative true full comments thanks!

EDIT:Would you say my issue is with lack of font style?

Man that .bmp took forever to download :3

Anyway, I feel like while it is a really clean site it lacks any sort of branding. To me it just seems like some sort of free wordpress template.

  • Should probably throw in a logo or make the company title and slogan a little more pronounced in the top left corner
  • I'm not such a huge fan of the stock photo you chose (plus it still has a watermark on it)
  • I feel like there isn't enough contrast in some areas while there is too much in others. For example, the shade of red you chose for the nav bar mixed with the fact that most of the site is straight white sort of hurts my eyes (might just be me)

Hi,

Its a nice clean site, but I also feel it lacks some personality probably in the form of a brand. Does your client have a logo, maybe you could design them one? Also, it's not really a delicate, serif font type of industry, so maybe a bolder, more modern typeface would help? Unless your following an existing brand...

When we talk to clients we also mention including 'calls to action' to encourage the visitor to become an enquiry. Maybe you should include some like; 'request a free quotation' or 'get in touch'.

On you three blocks of text at the bottom, how do you envisage people clicking through to further content (if you intend them to)? Perhaps a button or something would be good which would also make help to give the site more strength visually.

Finally, if you client has 25+ years experience, maybe include some testimonial from happy customers, it helps to gice your claims more substance. But don't make them up!

Hope this helps...

Anna

I would edit the link within my first post but i am unable to do so..

I have made the images smaller in file size. I have also added a screen shot of the site i have to redesign.

Clients existing site
My Design

I am trying to follow their color scheme and font style with their logo so i can't really redesign anything to do with that.

Thanks for the tips all keep them coming!
Thanks!

Wow you've done a great job in a much needed site re-design for your client! Their current one is pain-stakingly blinding, no offense. Your current design however may just be lacking content and a possible suggestion is using some subtle textures to bring the design out a little.

One of my favorite resources is Subtle Patterns in case you haven't come across it before. You can easily modify this with photoshop to match your color palettes and the subtle paper textures can help give it a less html-'block-iness' sort of feel if that makes sense!

Will check those textures out thanks Francine!

After a long and grueling time looking at the design i think the navigation bar may be the problem it is grabbing the users first attention for the wrong reasons?

If i remove the red bar going across the site might flow more, I'm going to try this and those textures and post back here later with an update.

Thanks for the replies all keep em coming :)

If i were you, I'd make the menu bar the same red as the logo, just to tie things together. In fact all the red elements on the page shoudl be that red.
As for the logo itself, it's toooo small. and one last thing, the search box thingy you have looks disjointed and out of place, how about plonking it in the menu bar?

I think your design is as good as go to template. It feels like there's no content, no touching, bad visualisations. Emphasis is very dull. Here's what i propose:

  • Improve question form, add some simple contact info (like phone) under/over it
  • Improve menu, there are many ways but i suggest start with the icons, desaturate the red a LITTLE bit
  • I don't like the billboard photo, it lacks something
  • More emphasis to the billboard content: better typogrphy
  • triple content boxes: add icons, give some white space between billboard and boxes (like 50px), maybe make one of the boxes small image slider instead?
  • more content would make site more alive
