Hello

I'm new to ecommerce and was wondering if a client wishes to sell products to both the uk and the US what considerations would I need to take into account....I know some retail sites ask yo straight off if you wish to go to the uk or us site....do I need to do this or would a ecommerce plugin sort it out for me?

Thanks for any thoughts

You don't need two versions of the site.
You'd just need to make sure you charge correctly for the postage, so have an international option.
To give the site better usability you might want to detect where they are from when they come to the site so you can display the price in the right currency or at least give them an option to change.

would detecting where they come from and changing currency and prices to reflect that be difficult? do ecommerce plugins have ways of dealing with these things

If paying by credit/debit card customers can pay in any currency, your payment gateway and their card company will handle exchange rates etc.

If you are trading internationally it's a good idea to offer a choice of currencies that your customers can pay in. Many cart systems have the ability to use multiple currencies and let visitors browse and pay in the currency of their choice. For selling to the UK and US I'd suggest offering USD, GBP, EURO and of course your local currency and anothers that may be applicable.
